48 hours have passed: Hoffman remains a Brewer.
No official confirmation yet, but here's my logic:
- The story linked above is McCalvy's initial post on Hoffman being claimed. It was timestamped at 2:43 Thursday.
- 48 hours forward from 2:43 Thursday would be 2:43 today.
- Assuming McCalvy needed a moment to gather facts and actually write the post, Hoffman was likely actually claimed before 2:43 Thursday.
As such, 48 hours have passed and, unless an announcement is slow getting out, Trevor Hoffman is most likely still a Brewer. Take a deep breath.

I must confess
I didn’t really care either way.

Seconded
Although, trading him would’ve meant not worrying about getting screwed out of the compensation picks.

I don't know if they will get compensation picks for him anyway
I suspect offering him arbitration will result in a) him accepting or b) him declining and finding that no one wants to pay what he wants and give up a first round pick.
I don’t think whatever schlub they’d get for one month of him would ever make a difference.
If it’s a choice between nothing and nothing, it’s hard to care.

More specifically...
as per Bart Given, waiver activity is bundled to 2pm each day.
On the other hand, actual waiver claims take place within the next two business days. I’m not sure if that also applies to the two-day trading window, but if so, things won’t be resolved until Monday.

I think I saw somewhere that the commissioner's office was open weekends in August for trades
I can’t find it again, though, so maybe I’m way off.

I had heard that the Brewers had until Tuesday to work out a deal… that would be Tuesday… Don’t know if it is right though.
