Win Expectancy Graph
SBNation Coverage
A series sweep, a well-pitched Jeff Suppan start and the Brewers' 21st consecutive home victory against the Pirates. It was a day of unlikely events.
Jeff Suppan probably saved the lives of countless Jeff Suppan bobbleheads by putting in one of his best outings of the season today. Suppan allowed eleven baserunners in six innings and had the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings, but allowed just one earned run, a solo shot by Garrett Jones.
Casey McGehee supplied the first Brewer run with his 11th home run, then a Jeff Suppan bases loaded walk and a two run single by Craig Counsell supplied the remaining offense. Felipe Lopez went 0-for-4 and is now 2-for-19 since leaving Tuesday's game with a tweaked tendon in his foot.

Giants fans hearing about how Hoffman is wasting away in Milwaukee must be confused
Pitched in four of the last six games.

It strikes me
This is the type of game they paid $42 million for, right? You know Suppan won’t strike many out, he’ll walk a few, and he’ll give up some hits, but they paid him for his ability to work around all that damage.

They paid him $42M to win home bobblehead games.

I would really like to see Hoffman in a 2010 Brewers jersey

+.226 pitching, +.024 offense
You could give up eleventy billion baserunners but if they never score, you get a nice, shiny WPA.

ahh...good point
although if you get pulled with runners on the WPA isn’t quite as shiny, even if they don’t score.

Matsuzaka roughed up for 5 runs in the first inning of a Triple-A rehab start.
Hey, at least it’s not just Suppan who has that happen to him.
i did some live tweeting from the game today, but mostly got sunburnt
and drunk.

Shouldn't Counsell be MVP?
Not only did he get 2 RBIs but he turned a number of double plays that the average 2nd basemen couldn’t have done…I want a recount
captainbok: What do you like the most about milwaukee
Jeff Suppan: Captain Bok, that is a great question. Does "Bok" mean Book of Knowledge? My favorite thing about Milwaukee are the Brewers.
It's not as simple as that
It’s actually based on the WPA ratings from the win expectancy graph. As far as Counsell goes, he only had .107, the third best in the batting category.
Counsell is awesome though.
CounsellWSMVP10!
yeah
wpa doesn’t take into account the defense – at least directly. But I’m sure you could take some of the wpa off (by hand) of soup and stick it on counsell for the relevant plays

kyle, i’m embarrassed for you, and how little you know about baseball.
He pitched as bad, maybe worse than he did on 7/27 when you suggested macha should be fired for not lifting suppan with the bases loaded. yesterday he works out of bases loaded jams all day and you say great performance. even if you concetrated i’m not sure you could be anymore inconsistent… and we all know consistency is the most important baseball skill.
Also, Kendall has a couple of decent weeks and you stop taking daily shots at him?
How much more of a casual fan can you be? It’s been over a year since you invaded this site and you haven’t learned anything, why do you write about baseball if you hate it so much?
sigh
goodbye cruel world… kyle (or maybe jim, jeff or kow) can you ban my account and delete all of my comments, stories and fanposts.
oh bcb, we hardly knew you…

"and we all know consistency is the most important baseball skill"
i beg to differ;) I think the most important baseball skill is skill itself.
And yes, the blog is a lot more “feelie” and less “numberie” than last year. I prefered more (valid) numbers than what we have right now, but probably a bit less than we had last season;)
