Can Yovani Gallardo propel the Brewers back over .500? Follow the jump for tonight's pitching matchup, lineup and conversation on tonight's game!
Hiroki Kuroda (3-5, 4.44) has lost five of his last seven decisions, and has not picked up a win since July 3. With that said, the Dodgers are 3-0 in his last three starts, despite the fact that he hasn't pitched more than six innings or 95 pitches in any of his last six appearances. Jody Gerut is the only Brewer who's faced Kuroda more than three times - he's 2-for-6 with a double.
He'll be opposed by Yovani Gallardo (10-7, 3.13), who has won his last two starts and struck out 24 batters in his last 20.1 innings. Gallardo is fourth in the NL in strikeouts (147), third in hits per nine innings (6.8), and tied for ninth in wins (10). With that said, he's also exceeded 110 pitches in each of his last three starts, and the 108 pitches he's averaging per start are the second most in all of baseball.
Despite leaving last night's game early, Ryan Braun is back in the lineup tonight (h/t McCalvy):

Mark DiFelice pitched .1 innings (13 pitches) on Saturday.
R.J. Swindle has not pitched since Friday.
Chris Smith has not pitched since Friday.

KL's story about contract bonuses got me thinking
I made out a quick spreadsheet with a 25 man roster, including salaries (with some assistance from Cot’s).
I made a few assumptions about arbitration raises based on what similar players in the same arbitration year got, and I gave pre-arbitration players a 500k salary.
Basically, I found that if we trade Hardy for a Starting Pitcher, as well as signing a Starting pitcher, our payroll would be at $76MM with holes at C and CF.
If we could work out a trade with Bill Hall, we could really build ourselves an incredible team next year.

I have a TW box with HDMI and my tv has 3 HDMI inputs. But when I connect it says “No Signal”. Lady on the phone said they just may not be compatible. WTF is up with that?

Now that the games are later, you'd think I'd be able to catch pregame more

I googled

there's a setting inside the control menu on my TW box
that lets me do upconvert 1/2/ auto HDMI, maybe try playing with that?

I mean, I know in theory, but if you dig deeper – he’s already earning $10 mil and though he’s having a good year, I just don’t think he’ll get $15 or $17 mil per year. Will we really not sign him for $12.5 or whatever? Or am I way off base?

I think there's a variety of factors at play here:
Because he’s easily going to be the best available CF this winter, he’s probably going to command above market value for someone. And while he’s aging very well, I think it’s probably a little too risky to offer him a multi-year deal.

Riskier than going with some of our other options?
I’m not saying to sign him for five years, but it does seem like it shouldn’t be a foregone conclusion that he’s out the door. I’m not sure I believe in hometown discounts, but that man has moved around a lot and I’d have to think at some point he’d just be happy to stay put somewhere, though who knows what that’s worth.
