No suspension for anyone, just a bunch of fines all around. Go figure.

I'm glad prince won't be suspended

and because of that, I’m not going to whine about Torre and Mota getting off either.

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Heres what I don't get.

How can what Prince and Mota did be compared at all? Mota could have seriously injured Prince by doing that, I’m glad he aimed low and hit him in the leg, but it could have easily been the elbow, forarm, calf..or the nuts! All places that don’t respond well to being hit with baseballs going 90+.

What if he charged the mound? Could anyone really say that wouldn’t have been justified. Especially since it was completely unprovoked. You just don’t throw at people.

As far as I’m concerned even if he actually got into their clubhouse, as long as he didn’t actually beat the shit out of Mota (which I would really like to see), he was still completely in the right.

I guess I disagree

I don’t think it’s fair to call the pitch completely unprovoked. Manny was struggling recently because of being hit by a pitch. The Dodgers had to take a stand. Whether Smith meant to hit Ramirez or not, the Dodgers were making a statement to the entire league that they’ll defend their guys.

Was Prince right to be upset? Probably. But that’s not how you take care of the situation.

In the end,

I don’t think Fielder did anything that egregious. People are saying if he wanted to go after Mota he should have done it right away. That would have garaunteed a suspension. I still don’t believe he waned to fight which is why he didn’t charge the mound, all he wanted was some sort of explanation.

Mota deserved to be suspended. Throwing at a guy intentionally should not be tolerated. That being said, maybe MLB thought if they suspended Mota but not Fielder there would be a huge backlash.

Either way I’m glad these two teams don’t play each other the rest of the year which means we can move on and enjoy the stretch run.

It is what it is.

I agree with your speculation as tit-for-tat

It seems to me, however, that if they both did something wrong, they should both be suspended rather than neither being suspended.

the Dodgers and Brewers are moving to the AL in the middle of the season

and both are still going to make the playoffs in the same year?

you note how astudiously I managed to get an L in…that’s how focused I was.

I chose to focus on the optimism

Not only will the Brewers make the playoffs, but they will win the division and thus miss out on the division series matchup with the best team in the league that is the fate of the wild card.
