As announced by BA and the Rock in the top of the 5th, the Brewers just acquired David Weathers for a PTBNL.

Cool.

He’s been having a good year so far. Who’s going to be sent down now?

My opinion of this deal depends on the quality of the PTBNL.

We have quality PTBNLs?

6 months after the draft.

New Draftees can’t be drafted for the first year, but naming PTBNL can be pushed back up to 6 months.

The PTBNL is somebody named "Alcides"

something or other. (j/k of course)

Yup

It’s Hernan Alcides Iribarren.

Hopefully it's not Heether

Although he might get a shot in the majors that way

IIRC

if we don’t put Heether on the 40-man this year, he can become a free agent. That would make it less likely the Reds would take him, though it also means it doesn’t matter. We probably lose him either way.

Also, cheese.

Call me crazy

But I’m not too excited about gathering ex brewers

Good may come out of this

The Grand Branyan could be next.

Ok, so that’s an unsubstantiated rumor I just made up, but I’d be ok with it.

About as consistent as relievers get

Good veteran guy to have around.

I wonder who goes down and who gets booted off the roster

Corporan, I’d imagine, gets DFA’d, and Smith is probably packing his bags for Nashville.

I brought this up in the game thread, but I'll mention it again here:

What are the odds the team sends Iribarren down and goes with an extra reliever in the pen?

With Hall now able to play three infield spots and three outfield spots, Iribarren is somewhat redundant on the bench.

Can't complain much

He at least has a functioning arm and doesn’t give up that many runs.

(Does this also mean that McClung certainly won’t be activated this week? Haven’t heard a thing about the state of his arm in the last 14 days….)

by morineko on Aug 9, 2009 11:07 PM CDT reply actions

I'll take it

Pretty solid bullpen arm, much like the other ex-red.
