Hardy, Smith recalled
Tom H. says that's all they're calling up today.
Those two moves are sending ripple effects through the system, though, as Rattler Radio is reporting that Cody Scarpetta and (2009 draft pick) Mike Brownstein have been promoted from Wisconsin to Huntsville.

That is one bitter guy in Appleton
I can’t understand being pissed that guys are being moved up the organization after having good years. Lawrie spent about a month more in Appleton than he should have and Scarpetta should have been moved up earlier as well. You don’t get to keep a guy in A ball who is having a great year for a whole season.
It’s like dating a supermodel. You don’t get upset that she dumped you, you should just be happy that she was willing to hang out with you.
That guy
Complains every time they move someone. Seems to feel the Brewers owe it to the Timber Rattlers to leave top prospects there to compete. If you think that rant is bad, you should read the one he wrote when they promoted Lawrie. Instead of being excited for the opportunity to see new guys (like Maverick Lasker, who was awesome in his debut last night), he wails and moans about the loss of guys sent up the ladder.
Even if winning championships in the minors was a top priority, the Rattlers have been on the extreme fringe of contention for a month now, and recently fell off of that.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
I agree
I live in Madison and one of the best things about the Muskies when there were here wasn’t if they won a championship it was getting to say “I saw Canseco etc” play here before they made it.
I want a real minor league team in Madison again god damnit
why is there a MiLB team in freaking Appleton and not in Madison
>:[
that's not a reasonable stadium IMHO for a MLB-affiliated squad
then again, I haven’t been to the appleton one.
The one in State College, PA for a short-season A squad team looks much nicer than the one they have in Madison.
Yeah, AFAIK that's the problem.
The city hasn’t been too keen on improving the ballpark, and in addition the Northern League indy team (for which the park also was considered barely adequate, IIRC, and would be inadequate today) playing there in the late 90s didn’t receive much fan support. The Northwoods League team does draw very well, somehow, but nobody’s been beating down the doors to bring professional ball back to Madison.
I think they're planning on either updating Warner or building a new park
but I can’t find anything out there to jog my memory
Hardy gets the start
Lopez 4
Gerut 9
Braun 7
Fielder 3
McGehee 5
Cameron 8
Kendall 2
Hardy 6
Looper 1
I would be more pissed about batting behind Kendall than getting sent down
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).

I don't like this..
I don’t understand why Escobar isn’t starting? He was a defensive replacement last game in the 9th so he had basically two days rest. Plus it reinforces the idea that Hardy was demoted for service time only. It’s pretty fin lame…. let him ride the bench at least one day.
Macha's attempt at damage control?
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, ""That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
I am still amazed how offended people are by this
seriously, get over it
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
I have no problem with the demotion
I’m furious that they are taking an rising star out of the game for Hardy who was demoted. If the reason was due to his ability to not hit the ball for the demotion, then why the hell is he starting tonight?
I’ve never been a Hardy loyalist at all, but if you are going to give a reason stick to the flipping reason.
Hardy, Kendall, Gerut (instead of Hart)...so we're back to the old lineups that we already know don't work well.
Thank goodness McGehee is in!
Kendall & Gerut have been pretty damn good for the last monthish. In case you weren't paying attention.
Oooo, a Kendall apologist!
You’re right though, on both Kendall and Gerut.

Well, I haven't been paying close attention to Gerut...but I know Kendall's done better lately.
He just needs MORE rest to play well, if you get my drift. I guess I just enjoy seeing Rivera get the start.
Lopez's foot?
Any word on his status? He has been struggling at the plate lately, which makes you wonder if it’s bothering him more than he’s letting on.
I wouldn’t mind giving him an extra days rest and give Counsell the start at 2B. We wouldn’t want his free agent status to drop if he continues to struggle at the plate.
Brewers don't do that
The Brewers wouldn’t rest him just to receice higher compensation for him. That is almost as ridiculous as saying they would send someone down to the minors to change the start of their free agency period.
Actually...
I was thinking they’d rest him so that he’d play better. The “higher compensation” would just be a result of that.
Oh yeah, that was claimed in the Mug the other day, wasn't it?
It’s pretty difficult to protect a guy’s Type A free agency status by not playing him. Several of the stats that go into the evaluation are counting stats, so playing time matters.
