DiFelice to 60-day DL; Butler added to 40-man roster
Even though his injury wasn't deemed that serious, the Brewers still put Mark DiFelice on the 60-day DL. It is likely this was done because DiFelice was going to be shut down for the season anyway and placing him on the 60-day DL opens a 40-man roster spot. Josh Butler cruised through the minors this year and was the return for trading Gabe Gross in April 2008.

does he start?
in place of parra if the neck isn’t good to go?
Seems likely.
He may piggy back with Narveson, though.
"The reports are that he is getting better. The definition of better is nebulous."
Like the move
I was a little surprised Butler wasnt in the top 10 prospects list opening the year.
I think he has the potential to be a #2 type starter. Great stuff. Probably would still start him out in AAA to start next year, but he has the makings to be a nice surprise.
why would he be
in the top 10 to start the year after the terrible numbers he threw up there last year… for a while it appeared that the moustache made an error in trading gross (wow, that it pretty tough to do). it wasn’t until this season that he turned the corner. and i am glad he did, might provide some depth next season if the starting pitching runs into injury (physical and mental – i am talking to you manny) problems again…
perfect world
Would be a rotation of 1. Gallardo, 2. Lackey (wont happen) 3. Parra, 4. Bush, 5. Suppan
But if Butler really turns it on and proves himself the last part of the year, heck I would have no problem putting him in that #2 slot in 2 years.
And yes, I realize that any perfect world where Jeff Suppan is part of the Brewer starting rotation (his last start withstanding) is a scary place.
In a "perfect world", wouldn't the rotation be made up of the best pitchers in MLB...
all taking paycuts to play for the Brewers? :)
top 10 before the year?
Look at his age and stats before this season first. There’s an argument that he was overlooked, but he was nowhere near the top 10.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
Would you not put him above Jake Odirozzi? or Cutter Dykstra?
If anything he would scrape the bottom of the top 10. Yeah he had a bad transition from TB to MIL, but the stuff has always been there.
He was 15 I think with the Rays before being traded.
I wonder if he cracks the top 10 this coming year.
As a 24 year old in high A he put up a 6.1 to 3.6 K/BB ratio
Decent groundball numbers. Now he’s close to top ten… but before the year I’d have had him between 25 and 35. I mean Wily Peralta wasn’t in our top 25 before the season either.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
I approve
Mostly because, yes, DiFelice shouldn’t pitch anyway; they’re out of contention and there’s no need to overwork him.
…I’m going to miss him, though. Not what he’s been throwing lately, however.
