Could Gallardo be benched for the rest of the season?
It doesn't seem like Gallardo was really happy about skipping his last start, so the possibility that they would bench him for the rest of the year seems really slim. He really wants to play out the rest of the season and, with what happened last year, who can blame him?
We'll see what happens after the team talks to Yovani.

It wouldnt be a bad idea
The Brewers are out of the playoffs and giving his arm rest to finish out the season carries more weight as far as the organization goes than his desire to play. Sparing a young players arm from undue stress is a major concern for every baseball team. The kid has labored this year in many starts, thrown many pitches, and there is no reason at all to throw him out there 3 more times this year and risk injury in meaningless games.
Shouldn't impact how much they'll play him
But I find it interesting that Kendall has been as cold in September as he was hot in August.
You know me Al.
Honestly:
I doubt that
a) Kendall will be on the team next year; and
b) next years primary catcher is currently on the roster.
That said, why not run the soon-to-be free agent out there as much as humanely possible. And even if b) isn’t true, and Rivera’s gonna be the guy next year, why run him out there and risk injury?
Hell, why run anyone out there? Call up the rest of the Manatees, we don’t want the MLB’ers getting hurt!
Hey, I just think it's interesting
It’s long past the point of it mattering if they start Kendall every game or none of them the rest of the way.
You know me Al.
Although
I have never been a big fan of Angel Salome, I wouldnt mind them giving him some starts at C this last couple of weeks. Of course that would have hinged on them actually adding him to the roster. He is one of the guys, along with Escobar and Gamel, I would have figured being given a nice amount of PT this month.
I just kind of get the impression that the FO is “going through” the motions these last few weeks. Maybe Marky Mark’s vote of confidence spruces things up.
Regarding that last point...
Can you imagine if they did that? They’d be lucky if they were able to get a quarter of the stadium filled for week night games.
In all seriousness...
some players (and their agents) would probably get pretty bent out of shape if the Brewers shutdown all their regular starters for the rest of the season.
Some players have bonuses contingent on how much they play… like Cameron, Hoffman, Coffey and Vargas.
Also, I’m not sure, but it also might affect Braun’s Super Two status.
Right, obviously it was a joke, no one's ever done that.
Except the mets, but they didn’t have a choice.
