Friday's Frosty Mug
This morning's Mug is the abbreviated version. Gorman's been sick overnight (and for most of the day yesterday), and I want to get him to the vet ASAP. Thanks for understanding.
- Brewer coaches met with Yovani Gallardo yesterday and are expected to announce a course of action today. Expect them to announce he'll make his remaining starts on a limited pitch count. He needs three strikeouts for 200.
- The Brewers went 5-2 on the road trip. This would be more exciting if you'd been in a coma since April.
- Jody Gerut hit a grand slam yesterday. The Bucky Channel is coming around on him.
- Dave Bush hit Milton Bradley with a pitch yesterday, and is now tied for first in the majors with 14.
- Prince Fielder was intentionally walked yesterday, giving him 99 walks on the season, tying the franchise record.
- A Girl's View of the Brewers makes the case for Casey McGehee for Rookie of the Year.
- Braden Looper's start this week was his 30th of 2009, raising the cost of his mutual option for 2010 to $6.5 million.
- The Astros come to Milwaukee tonight and Jose Valverde will meet them there after spending the week at home battling flulike symptoms.
- Rattler Radio has an update on the Baseball World Cup. Canada beat Japan yesterday in extra innings, and Efrain Nieves could start for Puerto Rico today.
- The New York Daily News has the Brewers 15th in their power rankings. Yahoo has them 18th and Beyond the Box Score has them 23rd.
- The Mariners traded catcher Jamie Burke to the Nationals for cash.
- The Orioles placed pitcher Kam Mickolio on the DL with shoulder inflammation.
- Today in 1980, Gary Ward hit for the cycle for the Twins, and the Brewers won anyway, 9-8.
- Happy birthday to Jody Gerut, who turns 32.

Thanks
He’s undergoing blood work and an x ray as we speak. I’ll keep you posted.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
I hope he is okay
Get the vet to inject some rally lobster nanoprobes to fix the issue.
You know me Al.

"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Update
The vet is holding him through the afternoon for observation, but at the moment the theory is a viral infection, and he should be home by the end of the day. They checked for an intestinal blockage and pancreatitis, and neither of those were the problem.
So, we’re not quite out of the woods yet, but it looks better than it did 2 hours ago.

did he get the barium stuff to check for blockages?
if so, be prepared for bright white poops for a lil while. It’s kind of jarring.
Baseball talk?
I thought this was the thread to lend our support to KL and Gorman. What is this baseball you speak of? :) I also think it is dumb(the extra innings rule)
Good luck KL
International extra innings rule dumb for baseball, smart for TV
I like it a lot better than hockey or soccer overtime rules, but it’s still not an accurate representation of the whole of the game of baseball.
Baseball Prospectus
Yesterday had an article specifically on the Brewers. They are going through the entire league, one by one, in a series “Kiss them Goodbye”, with a breakdwon of what went wrong this year from Buster Olney and the staff at BP.
I can post the link here, but I think you still need a password to read the entire article.
So, despite the disappointing season,
Fielder is on his way to having a great season… with many franchise records to be set…
1. IBB (21 Fielder 2007).
2. BB (99 Burnitz 2000)
3. Slugging pct. (.588 Jenkins 2000)
4. OPS (1.003 Molitor 1987)
5. ABs (666 Molitor 1982)
6. RBIs (tied with Cooper 1983)
Other noteworthy records…
Gallardo could set a new record for SO/9 (10.03 Sheets 2004)
Gallardo could also set a new record for BBs (106 Broberg 1975)
Looper could set a new record for HRs (36 Franklin 2003)
Bush could set a new record for HBP (20 Wright 2001)
Good question...
I’m not sure if there is a minimum number of ABs to qualify. The record is listed on the Brewers’ website…
http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/mil/history/season_records.jsp
Apparently the Brewers aren't keep that page updated...
Fielder also beat that number in 2007 with a .619 SLG
G and I are home.
Taking a long nap now.

Yeah, doing much better.
They gave him a shot to keep him from throwing up again and loaded him up with fluids. He’s very sleepy but he’s good.
