This is about as shocking as the Milton Bradley thing not working out in Chicago

Just saw this too
I don’t have a category for "washed-up guys who may or may not be dominant big-league closers sometime soon."

I'll tell you Charlie
when it comes to continuing discourse on this site, it doesn’t get much better than you.
/end of jerk
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

But really
I was in the middle of writing something, then I didn’t like it and my wife needed a hand, so I just left the title.
I thought perhaps people would be happy that I had also seen it.

At least he got to see and celebrate Prince's accomplishment.

yeah...i was gonna say
terrible week for him. Lost one of his last MLB claims to fame and his job in the same week.

On the other hand
No one knew he had that particular claim to fame until this season.

Third base coach Dave Clark will serve as interim manager the final 13 games of the season.
Should have done this a little earlier if they wanted to get into the playoffs.
by Zeyes on Sep 21, 2009 3:42 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
shouldn't he be the 5th base coach?
okay…that was a stretch.
what are his other 4 coaches though?
okay…i give up.

So will this spark the Astros to the playoffs?
No? You mean they can’t even get firing the manager right in Houston? Color me shocked.
On the bright side, they get to pay for Mike Hampton to rehab next year.

Goes to show
Never wish your favorite player of all time becomes a manager. I have gotten to see how decidedly unclever Coop really is.

Cooooooooooooooop!
Somebody had to say it.

So, why didn't they wait until the end of the season?
It’s not like they were in a playoff chase and Cooper was making the players nervous (the explanation for the Yost canning last year). Did they just want to give Dave Clark some extra money for 2 weeks work?

Like a Wookie on Endor
It just doesn’t make sense. The only somewhat reasonable reason I can think of is that Coop was told to do something (say play rookies more?) and refused.

Why can't a Wookie go to Endor?
I mean, so long as he’s got his Intergalactic Passport, and all.

I am really not the hunting sort --
However if I ever got to embark on a fantasy safari, it would have to be hunting Ewoks on Endor on one of those space motorcycle things…..
That would be Sweeeeeet.

Really?
Is it just because you don’t like Ewoks? Because they wouldn’t pose much of a challenge, hunting-wise. I mean, they can barely run.

they have weaponry though...
They would certainly kill me given the opportunity — It’s really just a function of self-preservation… and Ewok jerky.
Plus I think Ewok pelts would make could pillow covers.

Perhaps they're giving Dave Clark a tryout for next year?

I liked your attempts but shouldn’t you have made at least 5 jokes before quitting?

yeah
i was just looking for another opportunity or two.

The team looked absolutely lost in this past series and week
Maybe they were embarrassed that Cooper and the team had already checked out for the season.

Little Known Cecil Cooper fact
Cecil Cooper was once a Rule V draft pick of the Cards

Weird, huh?

They were covering up the...
… RIP Tupac tat.
Cooper’s a time traveler, don’t ya know.
And he sucked at managing because he knew if the ’Stros went to the playoffs in the last three years, a series of remarkable events would occur by which the world would have been plunged into WWIII.
He’s such a selfless guy.
Also, he put $50k down on the Rays to make the Series last year, so he’s pretty much set for life.
