Parra healthy again, set to pitch Friday's game
It's good to see that he's healthy again. Now Manny, if you're reading, get a win against those dang Phillies.

Why even bother...
Just let Butler start
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Why so pessimistic?
Uh, there's a half-dead-fat-man eating a dead-fat-man...am I the only one who realized? Oh, okay...
As a guess
I’d think its less pessimism and a combination of protecting a young arm and seeing what the future might hold.
That’d be my thinking, anyway.

Yeah, and why bother throwing Braun, Prince, Lopez, Cameron, and Hart out there. We know what they can do...
We owe it to the fans to throw the Nashville Sounds out there for the rest of the season.
Are you the guy buying Melvin's crap, then?
That they ‘owe it to the fans’ to ‘win as many games as possible’? You know what P.T. Barnum said.
I think the organization owes it to the fans to show them what the future might hold, and try to evaluate some talent now.
But, some people like cucumbers better pickled, after all.

I have a hard time deciding whether I want to win as many games as possible, or to see what the future might hold.
I also don’t believe that september call-ups are for “evaluation” purposes, I don’t think you get a large enough sample, and a lot of the time they’re playing against other september call-ups anyway. They’re to give guys a rest, 100 major league at bats isn’t a great “evaluation” period.
Besides, by the time they earn a call-up, they’ve probably had enough “evaluation” in their years in the minors, imo.
I guess I don’t see why september all of a sudden is about the future. Why not start showing the fans Gamel/Escobar/whoever earlier in the year. That’s gotta be a purely financial, move, right?
MLB pitching and hitting =/= MiLB pitching and hitting
I think there’s some fan evaluation too. Sort of showing off some of the future players. Likely other organizations are evaluating those players as well.
You’ve also got to consider this FO is somewhat delusional, and is pandering to the fanbase so that attendance doesn’t start dropping off…although another year like this fraught with missed opportunities and terrible internal evaluations and I doubt that will be so far-fetched. “Winning as many games as possible” is PR babble for “we don’t want you to feel like you wasted your money, and even though we made mistakes, we want you to see some HRs and hopefully our terrible pitching doesn’t give up the game in the first inning or two.” They simply refused to admit that the team was ‘out of it’ when it was quite evident by late July. Even mathematical elimination hasn’t changed the crap they’re spewing.
In any event, there is probably a financial component to it, though more from the ‘we need these people to buy more tickets’ angle than the ‘we can’t start Gamel’s clock for another month’.

Mykenk is being overly simplistic with his use of "evaluation"
in this thread and the other thread.
First, I don’t need Joe Winklesas to make 10 starts to determine he sucks.
Second, By giving players innings and at bats at the major league level the coaches can identify things that can help the player’s overall development.

I would personally much rather watch Butler and save Parra's arm
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
