D-backs Reynolds breaks own strikeout record
He got his 205th K right after getting his 100th RBI of the season last night. He currently is second in HRs too, with 43. Maybe some of the people on our team can learn from his "let it go" attitude.

Reynolds is up to 206.
Reynolds is having a great season — no doubt about that. He is also proof that you can strike out a lot and still have a very productive season.
That said, I am not sure I am onboard with any of the Brewers emulating what he does. I really don’t believe there is any correlation between his increase in strikeouts and his increase in HRS. This year he has struck out 206 times and has a .919 OPS, last year he struck out 204 times and had a .779 OPS.
If 2009 ended today – his strikeouts would have remained consistent from 2008. The difference really is that he is making better contact on the ball when he is hitting it — and he has taken more walks.
What is very interesting to me, is that Pujols has the lead in HRs, and has amassed 43 IBBs. All of the guys like Dunn, Fielder, Gonzalez are in the 20-15 IBB range. Reynolds despite being 2nd in jacks has only 3 IBBs this year. Obviously IBBs are not in his control — but I do think part of the reason he has 3 IBBs is that pitchers think they can get him out, and last year, they certainly could, despite his power.
If Reynolds had 20 IBBs or so this year — he’d be right in the MVP discussions.

Really?
I don’t think that the MVP voters are really looking to intentional walks in order to determine who is in the discussion. I mean, this year there really isn’t even a discussion to begin with, it’s going to go to Pujols. But even if the voters did look at IBBs, then it still wouldn’t put Reynolds up there as (as you mentioned) Pujols has 43. That is fifth all time in a season with the only guys having more being Barry Bonds and Willie Mays.

I didn't phrase that real well -- Let me try again.
1.) Generally dudes with 40 HRs don’t have only 3 IBBs
2.) Intentional or otherwise, BBs raise your OBP. If Reynolds had 15 or so more BBs, his OBP would be pretty nice.
3.) I totally agree Pujols is running away with it — however there will always be a top-5 and a discussion.

also
4) some of those IBBs to Pujos may have been Ks. so he may be replacing bad with good.

If Reynolds cut down his strikeouts to 150 or so
He’d probably hit .300 with one or two more GIDP.

Right and .300 with 43 jacks....
lands you in the middle of the MVP discussion

I just know that a lot of people complain that Cammy strikes out a lot and doesn't really make up for it when he makes plays
Uh, there's a half-dead-fat-man eating a dead-fat-man...am I the only one who realized? Oh, okay...
