2000 - 2009 - Triple Leaders
Here's the list of the top 5 triple seasons for Brewer minor leaguers over the last 10 years:
15 - David Krynzel, 2002 (High Desert 12/Huntsville 3)
*14 - Hernan Iribarrren, 2004 (Arizona 9/Beloit 5)
12 - Hernan Iribarren, 2007 (Huntsville)
12 - Travis Ezi, 2005 (Brevard County 11/Huntsville 1)
11 - David Krynzel, 2003 (Huntsville)
11 - Calix Crabbe, 2004 (High Desert)
*Iribarren had his in only 256 AB, including 5 in 67 for Beloit
The only two other seasons with double digit triples were by Corey Hart and Kenard Bibbs.
A little more about the leader, David Krynzel, shown below in 2005 with Corey Hart
Drafted: 1st Round (# 11 overall) in 2000 by the Brewers from Green Valley High School in Nevada.
How Acquired: Drafted by Brewers
Years with Brewers: 6, before being traded after the 2006 season to Arizona along with Dana Eveland and Doug Davis for Johnny Estrada, Claudio Vargas and Greg Aquino
Best Season: 2002 - Hit .261/.362/.431 with 89 R, 13 HR, 42 SB and 68 walks between A and AA
Last Professional Season: Krynzel played in AA and AAA in the Baltimore Oriole's organization in 2009.
Other Notes of Interest: Krynzel agreed to a $1.9 million signing bonus (or about $90K for every game he saw in the majors)
According to Baseball America, he was the Brewers #10 prospect including the fastest baserunner, best athlete, best defensive outfielder, and best outfield arm after the 2004 season.
Krynzel saw time with Milwaukee in 2004 and 2005 compiling a line of .188/.278/.208 with 18 SO in 48 AB.
Dave did have one three-hit game in the majors box
The first round of the 2000 draft was not very good. Yeah, the Brewers could have had Chase Utley who was drafted four spots after Krynzel, but the only other All-Star from the first round that season is Adrian Gonzalez (#1 overall).
Krynzel spent two years with the Diamondbacks, but only appeared in a total of 27 games, all in AAA. There are rumors that he walked away from the team for awhile.
Then there was the mini-bike controversy.
One additional story of interest, Krynzel almost played his way onto the opening day roster in 2005, but got sent back to AAA because he was too good.
2009 Leaders
8 - Jose Duran (Wisconsin)
*8 - Cole Gillespie (Brevard County 3/Nashville 5)
7 - Michael Marseco (Wisconsin 5/Helena 2)
*Also had 4 more with AAA for the Diamondbacks
