Between Peralta/Scarpetta here for me

I went with Peralta because of his age.

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Shocking to me Peralta hasn't placed yet

but Kentrail Davis who’s had exactly zero pro plate appearances has.

I mean…is the guy the Brewers draft in the first round this year automagically the #2 or #3 prospect in the system simply because of his draft position? Isn’t that like saying since Rickie Weeks was #2 overall he’s going to be an All-Star?

Anyhow, its just hard for me to see that Kentrail Davis has a better chance of making a significant impact at the major league level than, say, Peralta (whom I voted for two votes in a row now).

"If we want to sign a Type A free agent, we would lose a second-round pick, but we don't have a way to get picks back. Our whole Draft process needs to be redone."

I semi-agree

Though I did vote for Davis last round. Arnett and even Lawrie wouldn’t be where they are in the rankings if there wasn’t an implicit incorporation of hype/expected potential. The balance between that and actual performance is what makes prospect rankings so subjective, I suppose.

Also see: Odorizzi, Jake

Yeah...

… I’m trying to make up for my unreasonable man-crush on Davis by voting for Peralta now…

Vote for Gindl!

Prospect question

Does anybody know anything about Michael Fiers? I haven’t seen him mentioned in any prospect rankings (not even top 50 like at Brewerfan.net) and only mentioned once in passing by TH.

He’s a little old and was only used as a reliever, I suppose, but he had maybe the best season statistically of anyone in the Brewers system, in his first season.

11 S, 40.2 IP, 1.34 ERA, 0.72 WHIP, 59 K, 5 BB across Rk/A/A+

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

The only thing I know about him

is that he is pretty old. Most people are probably waiting to see if he continues his success at a higher level before ranking him. His numbers should be good for his age and the level he was pitching at.

He's a 22nd round pick from 2009

And I think the Brewers are giving him a shot to advance through the system pretty quickly because of it, kind of like they did with Axford. He’s old enough that he’s either going to advance quickly and pan out or be too old to stay back.

With that said, he did have a pretty nice debut season (in a relatively small sample size), so I’d guess he opens 2010 in Brevard Co. again, and is one of the first pitchers moved up if his performance warrants it.

John Sickels also honorable mentioned him.

That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

When I said "because of it"

I meant his age, not his draft position. He’ll turn 25 in June.
