Brewers sign Doug Davis (McCalvy)
The offseason just got a lot better. Looks like a Gallardo-Wolf-Davis-Parra-Bush/Suppan rotation.

Davis deal: $4.25 mm base salary for ’10 and $6.5 mm mutual option for ’11 with $1 mm buyout. $1 mm in incentives available each season.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

Awesome!
I’ve always like DD, and that’s a pretty nice contract for his level of dependable production.
I wonder what this means for Bush and/or Parra though. Hopefully Melvin and Co. are willing to go with three lefties (why not?)
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
you don't need the "d" in "liked"
when you’ve already got the DD in the sentence. any more d’s would be redundant.

I can't hate on this
I can, however, predict that Manny Parra won’t be in the rotation.
Also, did anyone else see this article at THT?
Here’s the moneyquote:
According to TRX, the bottom five pitchers in baseball last year were Jeremy Guthrie (worst), Braden Looper, Doug Davis, Trevor Cahill, and Kevin Millwood.

I’m immediately skeptical of any stat that doesn’t have Jeff Suppan amongst the five worst starters in the majors last season.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
You don't like xFIP and tRA?
The stat is just a combination of the two.

I wonder if they'll cut Bush now

Unlikely.
I think he’ll be kept through spring training as an insurance policy.
I’m working on a post on it, though.

I doubt they'd cut him now.
It doesn’t cost that much to bring him to Spring Training, on the chance that somebody gets hurt or really Soups it up in the spring. If you don’t need him at the end of the spring, Vargas him.
Yeah, that’s right; I just made two of our pitchers into verbs.

I can’t imagine there will be that much of a demand for him. If there is, oh well, good luck to him.

I'd be fine with that.
Particularly with the way Manny’s season went last year. He might do well in a long-relief/emergency starter role.
I agree with your point, but I'd rather not have them pitching back to back to back.
In case we play a team that absolutely kills lefties. Unfortunately, if Bush is gone, the only way to mix that up is to put Suppan #3. Then again, the chances they would play a 3 game series with those three starting are 1/5.

(From the JS article)
At first I wasn't sure it was referring to DD.

Suppan can be bad at times, but seems to have largely forgotten how to go deep in games.
By the way, I’m delighted that my 2006 Doug Davis jersey has regained some of its relevance. Not all, since there is no way they let him have #49 back.
