The offseason just got a lot better. Looks like a Gallardo-Wolf-Davis-Parra-Bush/Suppan rotation.

Davis deal: $4.25 mm base salary for ’10 and $6.5 mm mutual option for ’11 with $1 mm buyout. $1 mm in incentives available each season.

Awesome!

I’ve always like DD, and that’s a pretty nice contract for his level of dependable production.

I wonder what this means for Bush and/or Parra though. Hopefully Melvin and Co. are willing to go with three lefties (why not?)

I can't hate on this

I can, however, predict that Manny Parra won’t be in the rotation.

Also, did anyone else see this article at THT?

Here’s the moneyquote:

According to TRX, the bottom five pitchers in baseball last year were Jeremy Guthrie (worst), Braden Looper, Doug Davis, Trevor Cahill, and Kevin Millwood.

I'm glad I turned out to be wrong on a number of fronts (from a comment thread a few months ago):

 Here’s what I think he’ll do:

Keep Macha.
Keep Looper.
Keep Kendall.
Sign Doug Davis.
Keep Gerut and start him in CF.
Let Cameron walk.
Let Lopez walk.
Deal Hardy for for a couple of relievers, or perhaps one reliever an a AAA depth starter.
Sign Hoffman.
*********************

I’m not sure it’ll turn out to be a great or even a very good offseason. Won’t know that until we see how the players he’s added perform. But I like the set of moves he’s made better than the ones I feared he would make…

What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

I don't know

I think LaTroy Hawkins alone makes near-perfect out of reach.

by The Left Button on Jan 20, 2010 6:46 PM CST up reply actions

That's fair.

I forgot about Hawkins. Downgrading the offseason to a B.

Are we still hating on the non-arb offering, too?

Or have we officially changed the stance on that?

I've backed off of that a bit.

I still would have gone the other way, but I’m considering it a “neutral” move at this point instead of a loss.

Payroll now squarely at $85M

5.25

Assuming the option buyout, not incentives.

Are you including the Looper and Weather buyouts in this year's payroll?

Yeah, good point.

$84 then.

at least it wasn't Jarrod Washburn

Can’t really complain, except now it’s all OMG PITCHERS EVERYWHERE for the rest of spring training, until someone sneezes etc.

Well, Braden Looper isn’t around anymore (does anyone but me remember him getting hurt during ST by sneezing)

Anyone catch this great DM quote:

“He can be bad at times, but he knows how to go deep in games.”

(From the JS article)

At first I wasn't sure it was referring to DD.

I misread it…. and thought it could’ve been Suppan.

But then I realized it would’ve been… “He can be bad at times.”

by sjlee on Jan 21, 2010 11:12 PM CST up reply actions

Well

Suppan can be bad at times, but seems to have largely forgotten how to go deep in games.

By the way, I’m delighted that my 2006 Doug Davis jersey has regained some of its relevance. Not all, since there is no way they let him have #49 back.

he should take #94

why not? 94 is very important, as it leads to Miller Park.

I could see 94

though The Maniac might have an issue with that.

but despite The Maniac...

if DD did go with #94, I could switch the numerals on my jersey and have a completely relevant jersey for the first time ever! Do it, Doug!

Will his nickname then become Freeway?

I don’t think he wants that.

do a google search for michael freeway mccarter.

He’s kind of a staple of Milwaukee, or at least Milwaukee sports.
