Link came from ESPN rumors page. Certainly sounds interesting, Talks about Cain as a replacement for Crawford.

i assume that's a typo
the brewers don’t have matt cain (as listed in the tweet). if they did, any such trade would be unnecessary. anyway, i’m for cain + stuff to get garza, though it always depends on what that “stuff” is.
Trade him to Cleveland
For Matt LaPorta

What would it take to get Mike Minor?
I would think 3 years of Garza would cost more than 6 years of Minor, and I would definitely prefer the Minor alley (TWSS) than Garza.

I don't know if it would cost more.
It’s been reported that the Braves really don’t want to trade Minor. Though, as always, it could just be posturing.
No thanks.
Garza would maybe be an upgrade to our current rotation, but he is one of the most overrated pitchers in the majors (through a combination of the team he plays for, his no-hitter, and his postseason performances) and would cost more than he’s worth.
His career xFIP is 4.45 (Chris Narveson’s is 4.33) and his career FIP is 4.26 (Narveson’s is 4.21). Coming from Tampa Bay’s plus-defense to Milwaukee would set his ERA up for some serious regression.
Not worth giving up solid prospects, much less a guy who is penciled in as one of our starting position players in the majors.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
P.S. – I’d much rather go after Shields if we’re theoretically trading with the Rays. He had a down year in 2010 in terms of ERA, but has much stronger peripherals and is under team control for an extra year (w/ club options in ‘13/’14). Not sure why Tampa Bay would want Cain with Desmond Jennings, B.J. Upton and Ben Zobrist floating around though.

re Upton
the idea is that they would then flip him as he would be expendable.

As much as I love Garza
I completely agree. Walks a lot of guys, another fly ball pitcher who has big command problems sometimes and gets out of his head during games.
The Sheilds idea is a good one, and it may not even take a guy like Cain to get him because of the salary relief TB would get in unloading him. The only thing I would worry about with Shields is that he only adds a couple of wins at most, and if you dont flip him by the last two years of his deal, he starts to get really expensive.
Sheilds has problems with keeping fly balls in the yard though
I would think that Garza has higher upside than Sheilds (albeit he’s less of a sure thing), and they’ll be similar in cost to pry away from the Rays. Given the change of scenery from the AL East to the NL Central, I’d take the gamble on Garza over Shields.
And this year alone, there won’t be much difference in salary relief for the Rays. I would gamble that Garza gets similar in Arb2 (Garza is a super2) to the 4.5m coming to Shields. In two years, it’s almost a sure thing that Garza will make more, unless he locks into a contract for those years. The only big advantage with Shields from a payroll standpoint I see is that you have an extra year of Shields and he costs a bit less his first two years, but a more his second two.
