Brewers head to arbitration with Hart
No last minute deal was struck.
UPDATE: The hearing is over, and a decision is expected tomorrow morning, according to Adam McCalvy.

Is there an inside man
Camped out at the site of the meeting to guage the reactions of Hart and Melvin?
I bet Melvin is more pissed about going to Arby than actually losing....

I like that McCalvy included the names of the arbitrators, as if it means something to us ...
Reminds me of Barry Zuckerkorn in Arrested Development:

You talk,
But all I hear is Bob Loblaw
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
That was a low blow
(twss)
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
The names are given so that you can send them threatening emails
And follow them around town intimidatingly.
This is how bored I am at work....
Since 2005:
Elizabeth Neumeier – Decided for Club 6 times, Player 3 times
John Sands – Club- 2, Player – 0
Sylvia Skratek – Club 1, Player 0
Get a ife broseph
Neumeier was part of the panel that decided for the team in the epic Marlins-Kevin Gregg hearing of 2007 when Gregg’s number was $575K and the Marlins’ was $700K.

I noticed that too, but I thought that's what made it "epic".
Because it wasn’t the amounts involved. :)
This is one of the most disclosed “undisclosed” things I’ve seen recently. Isn’t the place, the time, the date, and the arbitors not supposed to be public?

I don't think so.
It happened in St. Petersburg FL, and I found an article online referencing it before the hearing began. Granted, I’m not sure if the exact location was publicly disclosed, but the rest of that info was available ahead of time.
I think it's one of those "Now that it's out there, we'll confirm it" deals.
The Brewers didn’t reveal when, or where, the meeting was, but once the info was public anyway, they confirmed it.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Useless trivia
All hearings occur in one spot each year. The union and MLB decide where that is, with preference given to LA, Tampa/Orlando, or Phoenix.
Why LA?
I can understand FL and AZ, but I don’t get LA

No wonder they went to a hearing
With all the snow in Milwaukee, GAsh and Werner needed a vacation.

Anyone else afraid
of the Lincecum outcome and what it might mean to small markets?
Apparently a lot of other owners are helping the Giants
try to win this case…. There is more to be won/lost than a few million here.

Not really
Because in the end the player is hopefully getting fair market value, or at the worst 40% of that value as a first time arb eligible player.
Small market teams can always lock up their big time young guys with long term, buy out deals and get a discount, and at worst trade them for prospects if they get too expensive. It works great for the Marlins.
Lincecum is a rarity, as was Howard, and they dont necessarily break the bank or set the curve. In the end players who want their types of rewards will have to prove that they are worth the money, and if they are worth it, theres nothing wrong with that. And if those types of players continue to produce, arb awards will still be deep discounts to what is given on the field. Look at Fielder’s case the last couple of years.
You do realize...
… that you just made that comment in a thread discussing the arbitration hearing of a player who turned down exactly that kind of deal, right? As did Prince? Or were you going for the irony?

I would love to have the problem of figuring out how to pay
a kid who just won back-to-back Cy Youngs. (Or is it Cys Young?)
wow, I had no idea the guy in 1997 did it.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
He was actually a 30-30 guy...
and he played until 1977 I think… we haven’t had many 30-30 guys.

Got them with 3:32 to spare
Nice quiz, though. There’s at least one I never would have heard of if not for the conversation about Braun going 20/20.

We should start a mini campaign to get people to know who he was.
A fine Brewer.

Yeah, I'm in for that.
Harper’s birthday is October 14. I’ll make a note to make that Tommy Harper Day.

I think most people eventually knew that DM would have to arbitration some day.
So, that’s probably not the issue. Even if the Brewers lose arbitration, at most they’ll have to pay Hart $4.8M for one year. If he continues to struggle at the plate, I could see them trying to trade him midseason so they wouldn’t have to go through all this again next year.
I guess the hearing is over now, and the ruling will be announced tomorrow.
I have to be honest
Realizing Hart is not a free agent until after 2011 did nothing to improve my day.
You can cut him anytime
Pre-FA players aren’t guaranteed contracts until they are inked, and even then you still don’t necessarily have to pay the full amount depending on when they are cut.
Experience
I assume Hart has an advantage since his agent presumably has more experience in these hearings than Doug Melvin’s heretofore untested hearing team.
I wonder if they don't just hire an arbitration lawyer to handle these sorts of things.

Creative Artists Agency (specifically Jeff Berry) represents Hart
They represent entertainers as well as professional athletes. I’m not sure who their other MLB clients are… the only one I’ve found so far is Jeter.
Some fans a jerk
They edited his wiki page.
Death
Hart was killed in a car accident in the morning hours of Thursday, February 11, 2010. It is speculated that he died on the scene.
Agreed.
If it were true, I think we would’ve heard about it long before now.
I’ve edited a few things on Wiki before when I found errors as well. My previous comment was in conjunction with my comment below.
I checked the St Pete Times
and there was no mention of a deadly car crash this morning.

Didn't last long... it's already been removed.
That’s the downside of Wiki… anyone can edit it. On the bright side, false info gets removed pretty quickly.
Although it still says: Jon Corey Hart (March 24, 1982 - February 11, 2010)

The other Corey Hart used to be Brevard County's hitting coach
And his email address is on this brochure. I still like how he got that job.
That is so obnoxious.
Nothing annoys me more than supposed fans who suddenly hate Hart. You can not want him on the team, or rib him in jest like we do Yost/Kendall, fine, but Cubs-fan behavior like joking about his death is just idiotic and something I wish wasn’t associated with the Brewers fanbase.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Boo!
Booooooooooooooooooooo… maybe that extra couple grand will help him purchase a thicker skin. Fans are going to be extra hard on him, if he under performs he’s going to end up crying into his pillow every night.
