The Brewer Advent Calendar #2: The Huntsville Stars
Behind door #2 on the calendar we find...the Huntsville Stars!
The upcoming season will be the Stars' 12th as a Brewer farm team, making them the longest tenured affiliate in the organization. In recent years, the Brewers have put some pretty good teams on the field in AA: The 2009 Stars were the first half champions in the Southern League North Division, went 73-67 in 2008 and also won the North Division in 2007, going 75-62.
They're also the only Brewer affiliate to promote an "unpredictable, diet Dew fueled, mildly inappropriate Huntsville Stars newsletter from the caffeine-riddled mind of GM Buck Rogers." I'll admit it - that description convinced me to sign up.
The Stars are getting excited for their 2010 season (which opens on the road on April 8, and at home for the first time on April 14), and they want you to be excited too. As such, they've volunteered to give away a baseball signed by members of their 2009 team to one lucky commenter on this post.
I haven't seen the ball yet, but here are some Brewer prospects who appeared for the Stars last season, and may be included:
Zach Braddock
Josh Butler
Taylor Green
Adam Heether
Jonathan Lucroy
Rob Wooten
So sign up in the comments for a chance to win this ball! Thanks to the Stars for making this possible.
(Also, if you haven't signed up yet, you still have 24 hours to sign up to win a WhatifSports gift certificate, so go do that too.)

i have nothing interesting to say
but would like to enter. not that this comment is very interesting either. sigh.
They could have a pretty good year this year as well
If the guys from A ball get bumped up and continue to perform. I can’t wait to see what Lawrie does, assuming they send him there.

YAY HUNTSVILLE
I am a fan of stuff.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
Wait a minute
Have we seen Jeff Suppan in the advent calendar?
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
We can't bust heads like we used to. But we have our ways.
One trick is to tell stories that don’t go anywhere. Like the time I caught the ferry to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for m’shoe. So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt. Which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. Gimme five bees for a quarter, you’d say. Now where was I… oh yeah. The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn’t get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…

Huntsville Ball
not sure what I’d like more living in Milwaukee to watch the Brewers in person regularly or living in a city with a Brewers affiliate to get cheaper, up close and personal looks at future Brewers.
Free ball!

The only thing better than a Jth L(scribble)y signed ball is...

a signed team ball featuring Jth L(scribble)y.
Blow Cubs Blow! Blow Cubs Blow! Hey Milwaukee, what do you say? The Cubs are going to lose today.

I think I have a Geoff Jenkins autographed hat. Got it over Christmas
Anyone know a good autograph comparison database?

I, on the other hand, am willing to accept a ball even without his signature.

I wll trade you
for the Rex Grossman signed football I have.
Q: Did you ever scout Corey Hart? What seems to be holding him back from being a good hitter for AVG?
A: The slider away. And that facial hair.

Thanks
I was hoping to have a few more this year, but I’m pretty happy with the ones we do have.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Yeah!
We want the ball cuz we’re gonna score!
and how about the performance of the local sports team

How do you go about selecting the winner in these contests, KL?
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
I keep a spreadsheet of "favorite" commenters.
Perhaps next time you’ll agree to be my Centsports crony. :-)
Really, I count the eligible entries (removing duplicates), then use a random number generator to select a winner.

What metrics would you use to pick your favorites?
Replies per Post, Weekly Rec Average?

It's really more of a feel thing.
I trust my gut to help me pick favorites. :-)

haha. How are you not my cronie, btw?
I’ve been rocking college basketball. Since the Super Bowl, I’m 11/14 on college basketball picks. Marquette’s golden blunder last night got me a buck.

Here you go.
Join through the link, and you’ll be come my cronie. You can just click on my name and see my picks.
They give you 10 cents to bet with. If you can turn that 10 cents into 20 dollars, you can cash out for real money. If you go broke, they reload your account with 10 more cents.

but you have to have $20 to cash out, right?
because otherwise I’d just go batshit crazy and cash out my 10 cents eleventyjillion times.

Hopefully Jeffress signs this ball, cause anyone who says you can’t be a stoner and an athlete can throw me 100 mph fastball and i’ll start listenin.

was that a "what?" traveling at 100 mph?
if not… he’s not listening.

Huntsville
And boom goes the dynamite.
The Stars….are aligned….for a Brewers playoff run this year.
Chicks Dig The Long Ball.
Hope its not too late to sign up
Whether they make the playoffs or not the Crew were a ton of fun to watch last year. I hope they approach the game with the same spirit this year (and better pitching),

Heck, I went to a Mississippi Braves game vs. the Stars last year and I think I was the only Huntsville fan in the stadium for all 12 innings of the game.
C. Magruder scored, R. Weeks to second on balk
Almost free ball
I picked up a Lyle Overbay signed ball at a Brewers Charities sale last year. It was $5. I figure the ball is worth more than that by itself.
