The Brewer Advent Calendar #1: The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
Behind the final door of the calendar we find...The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers!
A year ago at this time the Rattlers were also door #1 on the calendar, as they prepared for their inaugural season as a Brewer affiliate. A year later, they're coming off an attendance record-setting season (over 250,000 fans attended Timber Rattler games in 2009 for the first time ever).
Now they're preparing for a 2010 season where they could be one of the Brewers' most interesting affiliates, featuring the first full professional seasons of 2009 top picks Eric Arnett, Kentrail Davis and Kyle Heckathorn, among others.
They're also the easiest Brewer affiliate to follow online, with Chris Mehring's excellent Rattler Radio blog, games broadcast live on the internet via WNAM and an active Twitter presence to go along with their main page, which has features like The Offseason and The Interrogation Room.
2010 will be another great season for baseball in Appleton, and the Timber Rattlers want you to be a part of it. That's why they're giving away four pairs of tickets to four lucky commenters on this post. You have until Sunday at 4 pm to post a comment and enter yourself in the drawing.
Thanks again to the Timber Rattlers for making this possible!
(You also have until 4 pm tomorrow to sign up to win a ball autographed by members of the 2009 Huntsville Stars - don't forget;)

Pitching
They should have a pretty good pitching staff there this year!
Whoo, I was 8/250000+ last year.
If you’re in a 2 hour radius of Appleton and haven’t gone to a T-Rats, you’re doing a serious disservice to yourself. Even more so now that they’re a Crew affiliate.
Shruggity
Haven't been to FCS in probably 10-15 years
But I remember going as a kid back in the day when it was more about the mascots and running around than watching baseball.
BCB, the preferred above replacement level sarcasm supplier.
I got a brat from the Bratzooka last year.
Made my week.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Indeed.
Thank you for knocking it down for me. :-)

I plan on going to my first T-Rats game this summer
And free tickets would help that.

What has two thumbs and wants free tickets?
This guy!
When there is a scuffle in Ireland, there’s no need to specifically mention in the news story that alcohol was involved
I got to see
Lawrie a few times. It is way more interesting knowing you are seeing Brewer prospects now instead of Mariner players.
I’d certainly like to go to a T-Rats game at some point. Couldn’t quite make it happen last year.

Likely not.

Now I know what to get you for Christmas.

Free baseball
not only for double-digit innings anymore.

Already planning to take in my first T-rats game this year
free tickets would be icing on the cake!
the only
minor league game I was able to get to last year was the New Britain Rock Cats vs. the Reading Phillies. Good times.
I am officially commenting!
Good luck to me.
Eh…and everyone else!
"If we want to sign a Type A free agent, we would lose a second-round pick, but we don't have a way to get picks back. Our whole Draft process needs to be redone."

Never made it to a game last year
even though now one of my best friends lives there. I’d love a little encouragement . . .
Appleton?
Not a bad drive from Whitewater at all!
Love to see the future of brewers pitching
Hopefully for free….. though the price is still nice even if I don’t win!
Support Wisconsin minor league baseball
Go Timber Rattlers!
Timber Rattlers
Was suppose to go to a game last year but a family crisis prevented that. Hopefully winning this contest or not I will be able to make a few games.
Cutter & Kentrail in 2010!!!
Dear Doug Melvin…
It stands to reason that Cutter will get a crack at 2B up here this year after his move from the outfield back to infield (blocked by Lawrie last season).
But my 2010 slogan is going to look pretty silly if you don’t give us Tennessee Volunteer great Kentrail Davis for at least the first half.
Thank you & Good Day.
THE KID
Pro game in Appleton???
I’m so glad the Rattlers are now affiliated with the Crew! Now that they’ve been around for a year I think we need an exhibition game where the pro players come and play in Appleton. The Mariners used to do that in the 90’s when the team was the Appleton Foxes.
Ummm
Is anyone else disturbed by the picture of Fang? See, that’s why snakes don’t have hands.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
Are they still doing
drunk Tuesdays? Granted, the last time I went they were still with Seattle, but there’s nothing like dollar beers…:) Would love to do it again!
I think they call it Thirsty Thursday now.

Hoping to get to a game
Just moved here last year and quickly switched from being lifelong Reds fan to the Crew. If anyone has been to Great American and seen the lousy way the Reds treat their fans they would know why I switched. Bought a 40 game pack to the Brewers this year. So, now I can’t afford to see the Rattlers unless its for free…
Thirsty Thursday
Are always fantastic. I don’t think they were ready for last years Opening Day though, lines were horribly long.
If Appleton can have a team,
I don’t see why Madison can’t gather some funds and lure someone in with a nice new stadium. But if that doesn’t happen, the T-Rats are still a great way to get away from school for a road trip!
How far will this one fly?
Mallards?
Are there no more Mallards at Warner Park? I know the WP wasn’t much of a stadium, but those games were rocking. I loved me some Mallards when I lived out there.
I do miss the Muskies, though. Not so much the Mad Hatters…

mallards
dsuck
okay…i’m only judging them on one game, but it was seriously un-fun.
I went to a couple short season A ball games last year…those were okay.

if I just wanted to get drunk
and watch some sports, it’d be cheaper in a bar.
I want to go to a game to enjoy the out of doors and hear/feel the experience. The only experience I feel when drinking is the booze.

Actually...
For $31 you can get all the Great Dane grilled food you can eat (not just hot dogs/hamburgers, but actual Great Dane food) and all the beer you can drink (again, not just Bud/Miller, but Great Dane craft beer and a nice selection of finer beers) plus get the best seat at Warner Park for high-energy baseball with the most minor league of minor league hijinks.
I don’t think you can do that at any bar.
My favorite thing at Mallards games is when they single out one player on the opposing team as their “strikeout player of the game” or whatever, and if he strikes out everyone gets, like, a free towel or something. What makes it great is that the PA announcer is razzing the guy in between every pitch of every at-bat.
Plus they’re goiong to have fireworks at every Saturday home game… Just because they can.

No, but I think there's a similar promotion in place.
IIRC correctly, it either involves string cheese or nuts.

Wanting to see a game
I’ve been super excited since the TimberRattlers became a Brewers affiliate!!!! I live in Adams but actually get to Appleton once in a while and I can’t for the life of me think of why i haven’t seen these guys play yet. I wanna try and get my entire home talent team to go to a game.
Count me in
Haven’t seen a baseball game in Appleton since the 2003 WIAA tournament, be nice to return.
C. Magruder scored, R. Weeks to second on balk
I'm commenting
so give me some tickets, please
I would like to win...
and look to see if I can get a baseball card of my cousin in the fanshop.
Blow Cubs Blow! Blow Cubs Blow! Hey Milwaukee, what do you say? The Cubs are going to lose today.
Got to get to a game

Go T-Rats!!
Fox Cities Stadium is always fun and just a nice short drive down here from Green Bay.
Aaron Rodgers + Clay Mathews + Jermichael Finley = A very bad future for the rest of the NFC North!
Timber Rattlers
I have yet to go to a game, hoping this year we will be able to.
Can't wait for baseball season to start!
Looking forward to a few T-Rats games and lots of Brewer games. Great thing about t-rats is it’s a cheap night out and they keep the fans entertained! Last year we had a family reunion there and it was great, especially since it was a Bang for a Buck night.
i wasn't aware prostitution was legal in Appleton
much less so cheap.

Go T-rats!
With family in appleton, we make an effort to attend a few games a year. Our Brewers/T-Rats opening day combo is quickly becoming a tradition.
Can't wait for this season
Family road trip (from Madison) ahoy!
