The Brewer Advent Calendar #18: Seth McClung
It's true he's no longer a Brewer, but I hope you'll excuse me for breaking the format for a day to say one final thank you to a guy who became one of this community's favorite players: Seth McClung. McClung, who was non-tendered by the Crew, signed a minor league deal with the Marlins yesterday.
So, without further adieu, here's a poem I've prepared for the situation:
We're all here today to say farewell to this guy
Who helped the Brewers win the Wild Card, and raised that belt to the sky.
He was salvaged from the Rays, where he was too fond of the free pass.
But during his time in Milwaukee, his relief work was first class.
We followed his exploits and thoughts via Twitter,
At times they were fun, other times angry or bitter.
His use or misuse exposed a Ken Macha flaw,
But at least he gave us a nickname: he calls Macha "grandpaw."
We started a group on Facebook, hoping to keep him around.
We even gave away some stuff he shipped via UPS Ground.
Alas, our efforts weren't enough to keep Clung on the team.
With Vargas and Hawkins, the pen might burst at a seam.
But it's not all bad news, at least to some perceivers:
In 2010, no one will confuse our two red-headed relievers.
Pitching for the Marlins will keep him closer to home
And if he sticks long enough, he'll get to pitch in their new dome.
So, even if it's a moment many have come to dread,
It's time to say farewell, and good luck, to our friend Big Red.

I'm not happy with the #s on his contract
The Brewers couldn’t afford that? ::shaking head::

I'm pretty sure the obstacle b/t the Brewers and McClung wasn't money.
Seems more likely it had to do with the animosity between Macha and McClung.

They could have, but why would McClung take a minor league deal with the Brewers?
He’s got a far better chance to make the Marlins than the Brewers.

We can do karaoke anytime you want to come to Appleton.
I know places to go on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
oh my god.
that is by far the best thing I have ever seen
"This one means 'Kill Kirk!!!!'... And also, 'hallelujah'... Depending on the context."
In the story, he was talking about how he would grow up dreaming of pitching in the WS.
I can’t remember where it came from, though. Although, I would guess that most pitchers would say the same thing. He was the only one showcased for some reason
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
WHERE DID THIS COME FROM
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).

Classic...got to love
the self-confidence…the guy is my hero.
"I held it like and egg...? I know he scrambled the son of a bitch!"
It’s definitely not a photoshop. I think it was from espn.com last year, I’ll try to find the link.

Seth McClung, RHP, Brewers: “I would pick me! I’d like to pitch in a couple of Game 7s myself. I had so much fun pitching in those games against Chicago [in the final regular-season series] last year when we needed to win. It was such an exciting feeling, and I would love to experience that again.”

the championship belt pic
is totally mine. What’s a sister gotta do to get some photo credits?
I’m pretty sure the fighting words via Twitter as the season ended as well as the lack of room on the 40-man pretty much meant Seth was a no-go.
Sorry
I borrowed it from the Facebook group.

on the redhead stockpile and other things
No more confusing Coffey and McClung, but am I the only one who thinks that Wolf and Zaun look a lot alike? Of course the latter’s going to be encased in catching equipment half the time, so it’s not that confusing.
Also, now I’m going to have to start following the Fish, and my, a lot of the Marlins blogosphere is a pile of infrequently-updated suck. When the most frequent bloggers are the Coghlan fangirls on Tumblr, there is a problem. On the other hand, I can see why McClung may have thought this the best team to sign with—the fanbase is too apathetic to complain about him online, unlike Cards, Giants, or Nats fans (the Nats may not draw very well, but they have blogging fans.)
I’ll be seeing him in September, hopefully…unfortunately the Marlins aren’t playing the Twins in interleague this year.
