The Brewer Advent Calendar #17: Mitch Stetter

Behind today's door we find...Mitch Stetter!

While he struggles a bit with walks (41 unintentional passes in 75.1 career innings), Stetter has quietly cemented himself in the Brewers' LOOGY role, and shown flashes of brilliance while doing so. Consider this stretch, from May 27 to July 8 of last year, where Stetter went 17 outings (14.2 IP) without allowing an earned run, while striking out 24.

Because he pitches primarily to lefties, though, Stetter's outings are typically short. Through his first 107 outings as a Brewer, Stetter has pitched just 75.1 innings, averaging out to roughly .7 innings per appearance. That's the third lowest total ever among Brewers with at least 100 appearances:

Pitcher IP G IP/G
Mike Myers 91.1 141 0.65
Brian Shouse 133 201 0.66
Mitch Stetter 75.1 107 0.70
Ray King 154.2 206 0.75
Jesse Orosco 134.2 156 0.86
Derrick Turnbow 198 218 0.91
Dan Kolb 147 154 0.95
Luis Vizcaino 215.1 224 0.96

I have an irrational love for Jesse Orosco

The AP library had four pictures of Stetter.

Three were of him being taken out of a game or reacting to allowing a home run. This was the fourth.

That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

Interesting...

Did Kendall ever untuck? Granted in that picture it might be tough to untuck with all the gear on, but I don’t recall ever seeing him ever untuck.

Nope.

I don’t think Hoffman untucks, either.

I would give Mitch Stetter a moonbounce made of bacon if I could.

that quote makes me want to sponsor lots of BR pages and put nonsensical quotes in them.

Wonder who did that?

It’s linked to BCB so it has to be someone friendly.

Nonsensical? Probably.

But if I had the bacon, Mitch Stetter would have a moonbounce.
