Mark Your Calendars: BCB Meetup in Milwaukee on April 16!
Ok folks, we've kicked around the concept of doing this before, and now it's time. Join us on Friday, April 16 at AJ Bombers in Milwaukee for the first ever (is it the first ever? It's my first ever) Brew Crew Ball Meetup!
The Brewers play the Nationals that night (in Washington) at 6:05, so we'll probably start gathering around 5:30 to hang out, watch the game and hopefully meet some of the people we've been talking baseball with for years.
Brew Crew Ball is thrilled to have AJ Bombers (1247 N Water St in Milwaukee) as the venue/host of this event. Proud owners of one of Milwaukee's best burgers, AJ Bombers is a staple of the Milwaukee entertainment and social media scene (follow them on Twitter @ajbombers).
No RSVP is required, but they are appreciated as they help us know how many people to expect. if you know you're coming, you can let us know via Twitter or Facebook.
Thanks, and we hope to see you on the 16th!

Totally one of my favorite movies
So many good quotes.
Congratulations, you and roguejim get drinks on me!

That movie also stars one of the ugliest kids to ever star in a movie
And Kent, stop playing with yourself……
It is Jesus!
Personally, I think we got hosed on that one! - Harry Doyle
If you mean the young kid "Mitch"
You might be surprised to find out he was also in Apollo 13 & Frost/Nixon and he looks a bit like Johnny Bench now.

You'd have to be super smart to guess this movie.
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"

will they seat people under 21?
Again, doesn’t exactly apply to my old and distant ass.

I believe so.
I’ve never been there, but it’s a bar/restaurant. At 5:30, they shouldn’t have a problem.

If by "weird peanut dispensers" you mean Peanut Bombs
Then yes.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

Is that place a bar?
Just asking because Id like to know if its a good idea for the wife to bring our baby there and we had dinner as well.
Their website doesn't appear to be working
But here’s an article about them on OnMilwaukee.com that has some pictures:
http://www.onmilwaukee.com/dining/articles/ajbomberburger.html
Looks like a typical Water Street bar. Seeing as it’s a Friday evening, it’ll probably be pretty busy. Early on it probably will be fine for the family, but as it gets later, the dinner crowd will probably be replaced with a bar crowd.
Probably not an awful place for the family
But dont want to be near cigarette smoke, whether its with the baby and wife or me alone. Hopefully I can figure out a way to make it for a bit.
I think it's non-smoking.

Or a NOOO… because backtocali is coming?

If somebody under 18 shows up, though
Chris Hansen will be working the bar.

You read that as Craig Hansen and think the former Pirate fell really quickly.

Braving crazy Friday commuter traffic from Chicago to Milwaukee is asking a lot for not even going to the game. Would there be cheap parking available at least?
Free street parking after 6 downtown.
If you’re parking at 5:30, I wouldn’t bother feeding the meter, the chances of you getting a ticket in the last half hour are slim to none.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
You'll get 5 of them on the way up, anyway.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Not in Illinois
If a $50 happens to follow the license into the officer’s hand, completely by accident mind you, one tends to get a warning.
I think he means WI
County Sheriff doesn’t take kindly to vehicles with plates from south of the border. If you stick to the posted speed limit, you’ll be fine.
Yeah, I was referring to Illinois drivers on Wisconsin roads.
Didn’t have so much to do with sheriff’s not liking south-of-the-border-plates, as cars with south-of-the-border-plates breaking the laws.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Yeah.
I’m originally from Wausau and my family is still there so I spend my fair share of time in Wisconsin. Despite 4 years of living in Illinois, I still remember how to drive civilly.
I’m convinced now that Wisconsin troopers of every kind don’t look for Illinois plates – it’s just that people with Illinois plates continue to drive like they’re in Illinois.
The average speed on 55 mph highways around here is between 65-80 mph depending upon traffic. In Wisconsin, when I’m going 69 mph in a 65 mph zone, I’m passing 60% of the cars on the road. Do a little math and you’ll realize why Illinois driving habits get FIBS pulled over in Wisconsin all the time.
Yeah, I wasn't trying to call you in particular a bad driver
Just trying to make fun of those to our south.

Parking
Parking in downtown Milwaukee is cheap (most times free, unless there’s something going on… like a Bucks or Admirals game). The problem is actually finding a spot close by. If you’re willing to walk a half mile, then you should have no problems finding free parking.
honestly, if you get there by 5, you shouldn't have a problem finding parking.
After 5, you’ll have to drive around a bit.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Ugh.
It’s at least 2 hours during rush hour traffic which gets me up there at 6 pm at the earliest. :-\ People will have to take pictures or find some way to bring up webcams for people that can’t manage to get there.
At the very least, make sure someone can still post on the game thread!
I mean, it's not like it's impossible to find parking. you could pay $5 to park in a lot
Or you could park a few blocks away. But if you get there after 6 on a Friday, you’re not gonna find parking in front.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
There's a Milwaukee Iron game at the Bradley Center that night
I don’t know how much of a draw those games are, but it will make parking a little tougher.
Haaaaaaahahahahahahahaha
That was a joke, right?
Yeah, well, sometimes I drink.
by Dikembe Meiztombo on Mar 17, 2010 5:19 PM CDT up reply actions
Not really.
I’m not saying that it’ll be impossible to find parking… just tougher to find free curbside parking. There’s isn’t alot around there, so if there is an event at the Bradley Center, there’ll be fewer spots available.
The Iron don’t get big crowds… they average around 4,000 per game, but that’ll still put a dent into street parking that’s available.
oh...
new mustangs? I remember them, for their year…maybe two they played in Milwaukee before the league underwent contraction.
Are the iron in the same league? or are there multiples or a minor leagues or something?
by PagsBrewCrew on Mar 18, 2010 5:36 PM CDT up reply actions
AFL history
The Mustangs were a part of the original Arena Football League (1987-2008) from 1994 to 2001, when the team folded. From 1999-2009, there was also the Arena Football development league (AF2). The original AFL shutdown in 2008 due to financial problems.
The Iron started playing in 2009 in the Arena Football development league (AF2)… yes, they actually still had a development league despite not having the parent league.
A new Arena Football League is starting up this season, which the Iron will be a part of.
I’m no AFL fan, although I did go to a Mustangs/Barnstormers game and saw Kurt Warner play… all of the above is from Wiki.
Very important questions Mr. Lobner
Do we get to reschedule if Suppan is starting?
Will Gorman be allowed to make a showing?
This frightens me.

Putting faces to names is beneficial, though.
For instance: after meeting SgtClueLs in person, I feel much more comfortable disregarding everything he says.
Maybe that's exactly what Dikembe is afraid of.

But, from your comments, I am led to believe you are an impressive lush.
So if I show up and you have half-a-beer, I’m going to be disappointed.
In like fashion,
I imagine that when I show up and I’m not actually Ruben Quevedo, you’ll be heartbroken.
And I'd be upset if backtocali didn't look exactly like butters.

I'd love to go
But I really hate heading down to Water Street on a Friday night. If it’s nice, maybe I’ll ride down there… parking is so much easier with a motorcycle.
I, too, would love to go
except for the entire living in Dallas thing. Otherwise I’d be there.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
I am going to have to see about this
As much as I’d like to attend, it’s obviously a bit of a sketchy situation for me this year, anyways. Pencil me in for the next one for sure. Who knows, maybe I can work some magic and make an appearance.

Baseball, softball or t-ball?
Baseball might get ugly if the pitchers start remembering some comments made here.
Yeah, probably Softball, I guess.
I’m guessing we could get maybe 20 people together. We could always go without a catcher if we are playing softball, so we would only need 16 people.
I was kind of kidding...
Either would probably be fine because I’m guessing that we don’t have any budding Chapmans or Strasburgs on here.
On the other hand, it might be easier for everyone if we just stick to softball.
Apparently you haven't heard my great pitching on the UW-Madison baseball team.

Just that you could’ve easily played for Marquette’s football team as well.
Heh
Nice one. I was attending the UW when they cancelled the program. A guy who lived down the hall was a catcher for the team. He wasn’t too upset about it as he wasn’t planning on making it into a career. I think he still got to keep his scholarship, but I don’t recall for sure.
Awesome.

I'd love to be there
But I’m without car. Anyone want to pay me to get there from St. Paul? ;)
(I’d look to see if anyone is interested in a meetup before the Brewers games in Minneapolis but I can’t afford to go to the games. Freakin’ new stadiums.)
I am going to the game in DC
I will be in the RFK* parking wearing a Rally Lobster shirt and drinking a 40 out of a paper bag if anyone wants to join.
*they have shuttles from RFK in case anyone thinks I took a dip in the hot tub time machine.
Q: Did you ever scout Corey Hart? What seems to be holding him back from being a good hitter for AVG?
A: The slider away. And that facial hair.
