Today's game is being played using the Defector Hitter rule

Just read about Ron Washington testing positive for cocaine
Somehow I can’t the the Brewers having the same problem with Macha.
Maybe metamucil
"I will agree that the attitude [at BCB] is ridiculous and they have done so much to instigate animosity and then block us from responding. Real mature!"
I can't imagine why this is actually a problem.
Aside from the legal issues. I guarantee you that most companies have at least one guy abusing illegal drugs, on a regular basis. I say instill mandatory surprise annual tests for every employee in the country, not just MLB employees. I think you’ll find that this Ron Washington thing isn’t that surprising, and isn’t that anomalous.
Does kinda hurt his credibility with Josh Hamilton, though…

If you’re good with that, why not just install a police camera in every house to see if you’re using?
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
So...
… this is the “if you do it on your own time it’s okay” argument? I’d say my employee has a vested interest in knowing whether or not I’m involved in criminal activity when I go home at night.
Shruggity
I shouldn't have said anything.
We’re venturing into political territory here, and it doesn’t belong.

Sounds like Weeks is in midseason form
nearly blowing a double play with a poor throw to first. Can we create a WE (Weeks Errors) statistic which is just errors + blown double plays?
Chapman already with 4K's
If the Reds had Volquez this season as well they would have the makings of a very good pitching rotation.
maybe weeks will be our new reds killer.

For future reference...
If you want to get the game on Gameday, just go here and select the game you want to watch:
There isn't really anybody threatening to take a spot from him.
I think the only way he doesn’t make the team is if he dies of old age or the Brewers make a trade for a different outfielder.
I don't think it's that unlikely to get a fifth OF in a trade right now.
There are plenty of players put on waivers that the Brewers might trade for in order to assure they get said player.
DFA's or something...
I might be getting terms mixed up, but I thought that was the case.
I could also be horribly mistaken. A good possibility.
DFA is correct
Once a player is DFA, the team has one of three options:
1. Put them on waivers
2. Trade them
3. Release them
In any case, I don’t see it very likely that any other team is going to DFA an OF who is better than the likes of Gerut , whom I consider the 5th OF on the team. In two weeks, maybe… but not right now.
Do the Nationals have an OF better than Gerut?

I would probably just about put Willingham ahead of Gerut
but not by much. The Royals OF is not much better.
Maybe not just make the team...
According to my friend (per Tim Kirkjian sp?), Braun commented that his reads off the bat were unmatched, and that the Brewers would sit CarGo/Hart and let Edmonds play every day.
I told him that ESPN was making up crazy news, like the Pujols trade rumor.
Applying Simpsons and Star Wars quotes to Brewers discussions since 2009.
Most likely
He’s definitely ahead of the other NRI position players.
As far as the other guys on the 40-man roster fighting for a spot, his competition would be Heether, Cruz, Gamel and Cain.
I see the bench looking like…
Counsell
Edmonds
Gerut
Inglett
Kottaras
Huh
You jinxed him.

Why only 3 televised ST games?
There’s gotta be more of a market for them than WPT 5437893 or whatever they’re on now.
Shruggity
Money
It costs next to nothing to show WPT for the 83rd time. It costs much more to produce a live event, and even if you do double your audience, on a Wednesday afternoon it goes from horrible to anemic.

I wonder how much it costs to televise a spring game
By the time you have a camera crew, etc in place.
And, regardless how much we’d love to watch more Brewer spring training baseball, I think there’s probably only a low percentage of Brewer fans that would watch one for nine innings, and of those fans a smaller percentage that are available to watch it on a weekday afternoon.
I’d be interested to see a study on the ratings of spring training baseball. I bet they’re pretty high for the first 2-3 innings, and virtually 0 by the 7th-9th.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
I'd be interested as well
You might have higher ratings for the later innings because more people watch the end of the games when they get home from work.
Of course those same people interested enough to watch late innings after work probably have DVR’d the entire game anyways.
Get a ife broseph
Costs
Besides the camera crew, you also have to consider that you need a couple of broadcasters.
I think all but the most diehard baseball fans are interested in watching spring training games regularly, which probably doesn’t amount to a whole lot of extra revenue vs. broadcasting something for the 100th time.
Nah, no broadcasters.
3 cameras, and channel in the audio feed that they’re already doing for the vast majority of the games.
I’m not talking a high quality broadcast, think the TWC 32 high school baseball game broadcasts.
Shruggity
"A couple of broadcasters"
BA and Rock are already in Arizona doing the games for MLB.com. So that’s covered.

How many times are they going to call Goodyear Corey Hart's hometown?
Sure, he lives there now, but he was born in Bowling Green, KY.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Maybe they're defining "hometown" as the town where he has his home
Not where he grew up or was born in (which is the more common usage).
I prefer where the person grew up
Otherwise, The Wizard of Whitefish Bay becomes… The Wizard of South Bend, Indiana
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
he lives in WFB now
and played highschool ball in WFB
what’s south bend for?
by PagsBrewCrew on Mar 17, 2010 9:03 PM CDT up reply actions
he was born there
IIRC, John Counsell was Notre Dame’s baseball coach in 1969-70…
Notre Dame, btw, apparently believes its baseball program began in the mid-1980s if their official website is any indication.
I was just referring to the born/grew up distinction for “hometown”; C.C. grew up and continues to live in Whitefish Bay, but was technically born in West Bend.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
surprised
his cousin lives in WFB too (or his Dad’s cousin? not sure… was an ad exec at cramer krasselt) – so I just assumed the whole clan was from the area.

I don't consider the places where I was born and grew up to be my hometown
Failure is just success rounded down.
Well, he was born and graduated from high school in the same town
So it’s safe to assume he spent some time there.

One more ST Gameday question answered
A HBP yields a pitch count of 1 pitch, 1 ball. Thanks to Lorenzo Cain for helping us answer this burning question.

So, Cliffly was suspended 5 games for intentionally throwing at a guy in spring training. Where's Zito's suspension?
Shruggity
There are no suspensions for protecting the sanctity of the game from "inappropriate celebrations".
Apparently during their meetings, it’s something LaRussa and Selig agreed upon.
Applying Simpsons and Star Wars quotes to Brewers discussions since 2009.
Lee threw near the head; Zito threw a slowball at Fielder's butt.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
Also...
… he was retaliating for something that happened that game, instead of 6 months before. That makes Zito’s move even stupider, but harder to prove, I guess. Except for the fact that everyone was talking about it happening for a week in advance and the Giants said they wouldn’t forget. Maybe the secret code that permits a pitcher to punish for celebrations also prohibits the league from admitting a team could childishly hold a grudge for that long.
What begins in fear usually ends in folly.

No, Zito threw a fastball at Fielder's Head.
He just can’t throw all that fast, and has terrible aim.
