Rangers 6, Brewers 4

W: Willie Eyre (1-0)
L: Manny Parra (1-1)
S: Chris Ray (1)

Manny Parra had a frustrating outing today. He didn't show signs of control issues, but he did give up 6 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings, including 2 from a home run. Marco Estrada pitched 1.1 innings. Despite only walking one, he ran up the count with pitches out of the strike zone. The walk came back to haunt him as he was unable to pick off Joaquin Arias, resulting in a two-base throwing error that enabled Arias to score on a sacrifice fly. Mitch Stetter and John Axford finished out the game without further run-scoring incident.

The Brewers weren't patient hitters tonight. Only Joe Inglett and Steffan Wilson managed to draw a walk but the team struck out 16 times. The Brewers scored in the 3rd on a solo home run by Jonathan Lucroy, shortly followed by Casey McGehee's run-scoring single. The Brewers' other runs occurred in the 8th starting with Inglett's walk followed by a double by Carlos Gomez, a George Kottaras groundout that scored Inglett, and a Corey Hart double. Gomez, Gregg Zaun and Luis Cruz had two hits each. Cruz also stole his first base of the spring.

tough to steal a base when you don’t get on to begin with.

Wait

Manny didn’t show signs of control issues, but he ran up his pitch count with pitches outside the strike zone?

Two hits for Luis Cruz?

That might be the night’s biggest story. I believe those are hits #1 and 2 on the spring.

That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

I didn’t realize that his stats were that off, but I also didn’t recall him getting into very many A games this year. I also didn’t recall how he ended up on the team in the first place. It’s not like he was going to be assigned anywhere other than Nashville, though.

Strikeouts and HR Pitches

Went to the Brewer/ Ranger game last night. Our leadoff hitter, Billy Hall had 3 K’s. Definitely not good for your OBP and ability to score runs. Mr. Arbitration Winner, Mr. K, Kory Hart also had 3K’s and looked totally baffled at the plate. His double was I’m sure a surprise to him and the fans. And he hasn’t looked good the entire spring. Perhaps the Brew Crew needs to get brutal, cut Kory Har and his no contact bat. And try to find some poor unsuspecting team that will take Hall and Mr. Leave the Park HR Pitcher Jeff Suppan for a few prospects. Save a few Mill$ dumping Hart. Still have to eat Supps contract but at least he won’t be serving them up for the Brewers. Can we dump these guys on the Cubs….LOL

Wow

So much to comment on, where to start?

Did you really go to the game last night? If so, were you so far away that you couldn’t read the back of the jerseys?

1. Hall? When did he rejoin the Brewers? Granted, he’s still on the payroll, but last I checked, he was working on his pronunciation of “chowdah”. Or are you referring to Weeks? If so, one bad game during ST and you’re all over him? Do you realize that he’s hitting .320?

2. Cut Hart? Granted, he is struggling at the plate, but you realize that they just resigned him to a new contract right? How will cutting him save money?

3. Suppan. Did he pitch last night? In any case, I’m willing to bet that if the Brewers could unload him to another team, they would.

I like how he addresses the players formally.

It’s classy and shows respect.

We can in fact save money by cutting Hart, the same way we could by cutting Bush. Hart’s contract is not guaranteed (at this point).

Here is the rule

If the player is cut within 16 days before the season begins, he is entitled only to 30 days’ termination pay. If the player is cut during spring training but after the 16th day before the season begins, he is entitled only to 45 days’ termination pay.

I think we crossed that 16 day mark — so the Brewers could owe Hart/Bush 45 days pay.

I'm assuming that only applies to new contracts right?

Otherwise, I’m guessing that Suppan would’ve been cut already.

But Bush didn't go to arbitration

Or do you mean that any contracts for players who are arbitration-eligible.

Didn't go to a hearing.

Still went through the contractual process.

I will not argue with you.
