Results of the first Brew Crew Ball Tracking Poll
Thanks so much to everyone who voted in the Brew Crew Ball Tracking Poll. I had no idea what to expect when posting the first poll, and was hoping for roughly 100 participants. 24 hours later, I had 432 responses. From the ten questions, here are some of the responses I found most interesting:
- Of 432 responses, 82% selected Jeff Suppan as the pitcher who should be the odd man out in the Brewer rotation - a pretty clear indictment of the Crew's highest-paid player.
- Of the four candidates for backup catcher, three received at least 20% of the vote, with Matt Treanor the odd man out.
- The vast majority of us are, at the very least, giving Doug Melvin the benefit of the doubt. His approval rating is currently at 80%, with just 5% disapproval.
- A lot of voters are unsure about Ken Macha. His current approval rating is 38%, with 43% undecided.
- Even before the first spring training game, a lot of fans have bought in on Rick Peterson. His approval rating is at 36%, with 61% undecided.
- A plurality of fans were ok with the Gomez-Hardy trade. 48% of voters approved, with 34% disapproving.
- Fans were also on board with the Randy Wolf and Doug Davis signings, with 76% and 87% approving, respectively.

I'm surprised DM has such a high approval rating
I voted yes too, but I thought I would be more in the minority.
I'm surprised Lucroy was the highest voted backup option
I also voted for him, but thought more people would prefer a more seasoned catcher. I would love for Lucroy to spend a season getting used to the bigs without handling 100% of the catching duties immediately.

This is a good opportunity for him
If Lucroy were to get the backup catcher spot, at least he wouldn’t rot away on the bench like Rivera since Zaun is not expected to be overused anywhere nearly as much as Kendall. This way he could get some big league experience without the pressure of having to be the main guy.
Anyone else feel
That the player that most deserves to stay in the rotation according to our poll will actually be the one cut? I hope the front office proves me wrong, but yeah…

I am a little surprised that more people think Parra should be out than Bush
Parra is younger and has better stuff than Bush and is also out of options… why?

The question is out of the rotation, not off of the team.
I assume the odd man out goes to the bullpen.

Better than Bush
Well, Parra’s stats last season don’t back that up. Not saying that Parra doesn’t have more potential, but as tcyoung stated, it doesn’t mean that he’s cut… just headed to the bullpen.
Bush has more than five years of MLB service time
So he can refuse an assignment to the minors, regardless of options status.
I'll show you a renewal, Yovani!

Tony Danza?
Q: Did you ever scout Corey Hart? What seems to be holding him back from being a good hitter for AVG?
A: The slider away. And that facial hair.

Really suprised at the backup catcher.
I think Lucroy should be the starter at AAA this year. He still needs to develop a little bit and the next logical step would be to move him from AA to AAA, not to the MLB bench.
Salome was decent in AAA last year, but if you believe Lucroy is the catcher of the future then, Salome either has to backup at MLB or backup in AAA.
So I’d put Salome in the bigs. He’s a good enough hitter to play there, and maybe his trade value can get a boost on the MLB level.
I completely agree.
Lucroy hasn’t seen Nashville yet. I’m not sure why Solome isn’t the answer but assume they don’t like his defense for potentially 60 to 70 games in 2010. If Treanor gets the backup job, as I suspect, then what do you do with Solome? You definitely want Lucroy in Nashville but don’t want him and Solome splitting time. Do they bump Solome to Huntsville?
Why not Treanor?
I’m also a bit surprised so few people went with Treanor. He’s the only one in the bunch with ML experience to speak of, 1951 innings across 6 seasons. I realize he’s no offensive weapon but is that what you’re looking for in your backup catcher?
Agreed. I was one of the few that voted for Treanor.
I don’t see the allure of Kotteras, and I think Lucroy and Salome will most benefit most from being in the minors to start. Then again, I’d take any of the 4 as a backup catcher.

i took kott
I’m expecting him to break out in a big way:P

Four
He was my vote too.
That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.
Awesome... that puts me in some pretty good company.
BTW – We’ve now accounted for over 10% of the total votes he received.
I voted for Treanor aswell
But that was probably in part because it would give greater chance of seeing Mrs Treanor
I voted for Treanor
for the same reason.

I wasn't around before last season
but something tells me that you’re trying to say that they didn’t happen.
Suppan vs. Parra vs. Bush
I voted Parra out.
Of course all three sucked last season, and of course Suppan earns way too much;
but I’m not sure Parra will finally show his potential.
I have a feeling that Suppan could rebound and Parra will be the man out and get eventually traded.
Just a feeling :)
