Dodgers 7, Brewers 3
W: Jonathan Broxton (1-0)
L: Manny Parra (1-2)
On a day where the fourth spot in the Brewers rotation became clearer (it's probably Dave Bush) the fifth spot became a lot murkier. Jeff Suppan had a relatively non-offensive performance today, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks in 4.1 innings. The other half of the scheduled pitching, on the other hand, couldn't pull it off today. Manny Parra gave up 5 runs in 3.2 innings on 2 walks and 8 hits.
The Brewers offense scored all 3 runs off Dodgers starter Josh Towers. In the first inning, Carlos Gomez scored on a Ryan Braun double. In the fifth, Gregg Zaun and Craig Counsell scored on a Rickie Weeks double. Weeks and Zaun both had 2 hits today. Gomez had his 9th steal of the spring in the first.

Yes.
I think I read that he had “to go home to get some stuff” — as today was the day he was to be released.

I really hope one spring training start doesn't change the opinion of who gets the fifth starter spot.
E: George 4 (5, throw, throw, throw, throw).
What are you talking about?
Suppan should be the 4th starter and we should be finding a bag of balls we can trade Parra for. It’s made the entire situation more clear!

Because 140.0 IP (2009) isn't a very large sample
…and before that he had a career 3.05 ERA, 8.6 K/9, 2.6 BB/9 line in the minors (564.0 IP) and a career 4.30 ERA, 8.1 K/9, 4.1 BB/9 (192.2 IP) line in the majors, and if he regains his control has #2 upside?
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
FIP of 4.30, 6.5 K/9, 4.7 BB/9, WHIP of 1.50

Is there a new development in the dave bush situation besides today's game?
Because the fact that he’s probably the 4th starter is (good) news to me.
How is it possible that roughly 10 days from opening day...
… a professional athlete is still trying to figure out what device he’s going to use to correct his vision so he can see the damn ball?
Are you f****** kidding me with this garbage, Corey Hart? High school athletes know enough to get their contacts/goggles/glasses sorted out before the first practice, for crying out loud. And we’re supposed to think that this year you’re going to prove you deserve to be one considered one of the core players on this team when you can’t figure out how to dial 1-800-Contacts?

I'm not sure where that's coming from?
I thought he established he didn’t like contact lenses so they never bothered to order them. Then he got the goggles, but didn’t like wearing them at the plate. Is he trying something new? I just assumed he was giving up on corrective lenses.
what an awful idea that would be
he needs either corrective lenses or lasik to do his job right. I doubt he needs glasses to read the spin on a ball in the outfield. Where he needs them is at the plate.
…and it’s a little late in ST for lasik unless both he and the brewers don’t mind him being on the DL for a while.

Lasik did so much
For Hall and Kendall, oh wait they both still sucked after it my bad
kumbaya my lord kumbaya :)
Lasik examples...
Here’s a nifty little article about Lasik from our sister site for the Mariners…
http://www.lookoutlanding.com/2010/3/19/1381852/on-the-benefits-of-lasik-surgery-a
all I was saying was the last two Brewer examples
of players who had this procedure did not end well. Just pointing out a trend that is all. What is Lasik a sacred cow now?
kumbaya my lord kumbaya :)
As a guy with a statistics degree, 2 points does not make a trend.
Although, I don’t think you need a degree to know that.

so you are going to go out of your way to give anything I post shat
really Mykenk, how about we make a deal you do not comment on my stuff and I will ignore you the entire season. I promise I won’t swear or anything that will require you to scold me. I would really actually like to enjoy the season(being on my best behavior) So as long as I am not dropping F-Bombs why dont you just leave me be ok :)
and for the record I more than understand the concept of a very small sample. I simple stated it did nothing for the last two Brewers who tried it nothing more nothing less.
Kyle please tell Mykenk to leave me alone thank you :)
kumbaya my lord kumbaya :)
Sacred cow?
Where’d you get that from? I don’t see any posts that vaguely resemble anyone being a strong proponent of Lasik.
as I recall
Kendall was batting around .420 for the first month or two after lasik, then lost it severely from there.
I spoke to a couple that got lasik – usually they make the cuts so that when the eye finishes healing and “rebounds” a bit it will be at the proper correction. What they seem to be doing with MLB players (who seem to not get it as soon as the offseason starts, but rather just before/during spring training) they cut the eye to IMMEDIATELY give proper correction. This means when it heals, vision actually gets WORSE again. My thought is Kendall was among those that had perfect vision right away, but a month or two later had an uncorrected vision problem again. In other words, dude MIGHT have been an effective batter all season long if he did the procedure at the right time and in the right way.

Plus, my ex-boss's husband
was a well-regarded lasik surgeon. I should have bit the bullet and had him treat me a few years ago.

overcorrection after healing
would be my guess
by PagsBrewCrew on Mar 26, 2010 5:04 PM CDT up reply actions
Don't know about that
I’m sure he’s faced pitchers that are no longer going to be making opening day rosters, plus his SLG+/OPS+ is probably nothing close to what Prince’s usually is.

not if you plan on sticking him at first....
which I swear was in the post that ecocd responded to. but I guess I need my vision checked.
yeah…Hart on the DL as his eyes heal would be just fine and dandy with me to start off the season.

It's only ST...
… but right now the only thing Hart does that Edmonds doesn’t do as well or better is cash checks.

He apparently didn't like his glasses..
… and the goggles aren’t here yet, so now he’s decided to try contact lenses.

how can the goggles not be here yet?
?
lenscrafters: glasses in about an hour. I’m sure recspecs or whoever he’s getting his goggles from can have something ready for him in a week.
