Question on ticket availability
My wife and I are considering a trip to the Milwaukee area this summer and after visiting there about 7 years ago and attending two games at Miller Park, I know I want to take her to see a game if we end up making the trip. When I was there previously, I was able to just walk up to the ticket window both days and get good seats-10 or 12 rows up in the 3B area. My question to you folks is this: Should I expect to get good seats at the ticket window the day of the game? Should I buy tickets ahead of time via ticketmaster or something like that? Are there ticket brokers in your area where I could get good seats? I'm not looking to spend a fortune by any means but I think a few years back the ticket I bought cost me around $30-35. Are the prices still in that range?
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

I would check Brewers.com or stubhub
if they happen to be playing the cubs or Twins when you’re here (or even the cardinals and certain other teams) then the game is pretty much guaranteed to be sold out.
Good to know
The games I went to before were against the Twins, but like I said that was almost 7 years ago. I figured attendance had gone up since then.
Thanks for the reply.

If it's a weekend game, then no.
Weekend games usually sell out, you might get lucky and get a good seat, but it would be risky.
If you go on a weekday, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll be able to buy some good seats at the ticket booth.
Particularly if it is a weekday afternoon game, it should be easy to get tickets.
For 30 bucks, you can get Loge Outfield seats, which aren’t too terrible, except it is near impossible to see any balls that find there way into the outfield corner where you are sitting.
Weeknights should not be difficult either
as long as you avoid the Cubs and Twins series.
During the 2009 season brewers.com had varying “web gem” deals. One offered a four-pack of loge infield seats, plus four sodas and four crackerjacks, for $100. That offer allowed me to buy two seats at the same rate (2 seats, sodas and crackerjacks for $50).
The web gems tend not to include weekends and won’t include marquee games (like Cubs and Twins) but it might be worth a look at brewers.com/webgem. Checking that URL now links to the final web gem of 2009. These deals are online only but the one we pursued was all right.
You've got a couple screws missin' up in your toolbox, if you think that you'll stop this man from hittin' moonshots.
If you go to a day game (especially with the wife)
DO NOT SIT ON THE 3rd BASE LINE
Yeah, well, sometimes I drink.

Even if your taking your mistress, don’t sit on the 3rd base line for an afternoon game.
When there is a scuffle in Ireland, there’s no need to specifically mention in the news story that alcohol was involved

Definitely the sun.
I’ve gone to many Sunday afternoon games and met family who sat on the third base side. They were drenched in sweat and were red as cooked lobsters.
I personally like sitting in the Field Outfield Box as close to the field as possible. If it’s a day game, I make sure it’s along right field.
You know, I sat on the 3rd base line 3 times last year during day games and only got burned once.
But that was out of sheer, “Sunscreen? We don’t need no stinking sunscreen!” hubris.
But really don’t sit on the 3rd base line for a day game unless you buy stock in Banana Boat sunscreen the day before.

I would just buy them in advance if you know when you're going to be there
It’s harder to just walk-up and get tickets than it used to be (e.g. average game attendance in 2009 was 37,499 as compared to just 20,992 seven years ago in 2003)
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
If you know for sure what day you want to go to a game, buy the tickets ahead of time.
If it’s not already sold out, you can get tickets on the Brewers’ website. Go there first because you’ll only pay face value.
I think seats 10-12 rows up from 3B are for season ticket holders only. Otherwise, they’ll run $50 (Field Infield Box).
I wouldn’t risk trying to buy tickets at the ticket window before the game if you’re driving in a long distance. Another option if the game is sold out would be to go to the scalpers area near the little league field.
A good tip is to buy your next game's tickets from the box office when you're there.
My dad and I go a few times a year to Brewers games (he’s turning 60 this Saturday and his present to himself is that he’s buying the next game’s tickets on a senior citizen’s discount) and we always only buy one game a year online. You don’t get killed on the stupid fees.

Personally...
I buy my tickets during the day at the ticket window over lunch. I work only a couple miles from Miller Park.
Thanks for all the help everyone
I figured things had changed quite a bit since I was last up that way. We’re looking at going to the June 26th game when the Mariners are in town. Since it’s a day game I’ll make sure to get seats along the first base side and will buy them as soon as we decide for sure that’s when we’re going.

I'm guessing
The Mariners series will be well-attended by “non-casuals.” A bunch of people on this blog will want to see what Jack Z’s (a former brewer exec) done with the team. However, there’s not much threat of a huge population surge at the game. Just better attended than if some other random western division or AL team came to town.
It's a weekend game in June. It will be all but sold out.
Cards Announcers On Gamel's First Career HR, "That’s all they need is another home run hitter".
That whole SEA series should draw well
As an example, we are bringing a group of 15 to the Sunday 6/27 game, and by last week (i.e. days after single game tickets went on sale) our only terrace box options were in the outfield corners.
Granted, the Sunday game features a Cecil Cooper bobblehead, and seeking fewer than 15 seats should give you more options, but I agree with tcyoung – that series stands a very good chance of selling out or virtually selling out.

Oh well ...
Reading this really makes me wanting to visit Miller Park as well.
Never was in America, never saw a MLB game, but listen to Uecker regularly ;)
And Lufthansa has very cheap flights (€349) to Chicago at the moment, but my busy work periods fall togehter with the baseball season.

Question on roof...
I just purchased tickets to the Brewers vs Cards on 4/9/10 (Friday night). I’m assuming temps in the 40’s best case. Does the roof open or close based on temperature or only precipitation?
Dallas Green!
roof
temperature is a factor also. I don’t think that the roof opens much in April.
Q: Did you ever scout Corey Hart? What seems to be holding him back from being a good hitter for AVG?
A: The slider away. And that facial hair.

They usually keep the roof closed for every game in April and May,
no matter what the temp is.

I emailed the Brewers about this once
and as of the early 2000s, they said they considered the roof more of a precipitation shield than anything else, but had a rough temperature guide of 60 degrees.
This would make me think that unless the weather on April 9 is uncommonly warm, the roof will be closed (especially by an evening game time).

The last two years
I don’t think the roof was open more than once or twice before Memorial Day.
Sporcle
who is starting one to name the dates that the roof has been open before Memorial Day?
