Prediction Week: The 2010 BCB Prediction Contest
It's time once again for the annual Brew Crew Ball Prediction Contest. For the last two seasons, we've done an Over/Under contest, but this year I'm changing things up a bit and ripping off an idea from Beyond The Box Score. Actually, I'm ripping off the directions, too:
Below you will find 45 pairs of numbers. In each case, you tell me which number will be bigger. One point for each correct answer. Most points wins.
Ties (although I've done my best to avoid them) go to the side that had fewer votes. For example, here is a pair of numbers:
Wins by the Yankees
Wins by the Red SoxLet’s say 41 people take the Yankees and 54 take the Red Sox. If the Yankees and Red Sox end up with the same number of wins, then each Yankee-backer will get a point and each Red Sox-backer will not.
Here's something else that's different this year: Prizes. The winner of this year's prediction contest will receive a BCB T-shirt of their choosing, and perhaps other miscellaneous prizes that come into my possession as the year goes along. If we get to 200 participants, I'll throw in a second prize, and continue to add prizes for each 100 participants, up to 500.
This year, participating is easier than ever. The 45 questions are in a Google Form, posted after the jump. Never again will I have to manually calculate contest winners - this year it's all being fed directly into a spreadsheet, and at the end of the season I should be able to identify our winners in a day or less.
So, follow the jump to add your entry! Entries must be submitted by game time on Opening Day to be eligible. Have fun and good luck!

Correct

Clarification on Question 7
Should “or more” be added to both choices or are you asking for players who get those stats right on the head?
I took it to mean "at least that many"

Because I'm a b***tard...
If manual calculation is no longer required, could it be run a monthly contest with fewer questions each month (20 Q’s and a tie-breaker)? Not necessarily you, KL.
Everyone that wins a month during the Regular Season qualifies for the Postseason contest and the next 4 highest overall point totals over all six months win the Wildcard spots for the Postseason contest.
Prizes go to the overall Regular Season point total winner and the Postseason winner. Heck, I’d even put up $20 myself for one of the t-shirts and/or some other neato prize, because I think it would be fun.
Two questions:
1) Would people put in the work to play if the “only” prize would be a free BCB t-shirt?
2) KL: How much work do these contests take, even with the Google forms shortcut? If I were to volunteer to run this am I going to be mortgaging 40 hours of my life every month for this?
I’ve been looking for a way to contribute to the community and this might be something I’m capable of doing.
you could make witty remarks and lame Eric Stults/Stoltz jokes
like I do, throw in a random cool video or picture and you are good to go.
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."
While those are truly noble additions
I was looking for Front Page material contributions. I don’t have the time for Frosty Mug or the patience for a Game Summary. And I’ll have to learn SQL and SQLite before I could even start on anything Pitch F/X related.
Prediction Monthly seems like it would be less work than Pitch F/X analysis.
I think this could be fun.
Running it wouldn’t be an exceptional challenge…coming up with questions is the hard part, for the most part. I’d guess I have eight hours into the production of this contest, and will spend another 8 or so on update posts, data collection, determining and notifying winners, and packaging/shipping out prizes.
If you’re willing to take on that level of work, I’ll keep you in mind as the potential proctor for future contests.

They wouldn't have to be all original questions
Asking about home runs vs. stolen bases could be every other month, if not every month. Sure, there would have to be at least some original questions every month and you’d have to rotate the repeats around a little bit, but it’d still be fun.
You can keep me in mind for future contests. I’d just need a hand on the Google forms part the first time around.
It's really not bad at all.

I made it "one run or less"
So that someone wouldn’t argue that it was “at least one run,” and make the case that every Brewer win should count.
