That made me laugh more than it probably should've
Brewers Baseball and other assorted nonsense (mostly the assorted nonsense) at my blog, What's a Tararrel?
Every McGehee hit moves Gamel closer to trade bait status.
I'm not arguing, I'm just offering a relentlessly contrarian point of view.
Isn't that where Lawrie is moving to?
He and Gamel should fight it out.

No
That’s where Caleb Gindl is going to play in two years.

Somebody's gotta play first next year.
My goodness.
by BrewHaHeather on Apr 15, 2010 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions
Why not?
They still have control over him next season. If they go to arbitration, he’ll likely get something like $15-18M (depending on what DM offers and Boras asks for).
For one season, Fielder is worth it.
I think Boras will make it clear that he's not going to let Prince sign
and they will trade him during the offseason.
My goodness.
by BrewHaHeather on Apr 15, 2010 2:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Even if he doesn't sign an extension
The Brewers could still keep him to start the season, then trade him once they’re out of playoff contention.
True
but you could get more prospects back if you trade him sooner. Like in the offseason.
My goodness.
by BrewHaHeather on Apr 15, 2010 2:33 PM CDT up reply actions
More prospects
Possibly… but I’d take quality over quantity in terms of prospects.
Depending on who he gets traded to (a playoff contender with a deep farm system), they could get a good return on a trade even during the season.
Yes, quality is a better term.
I don’t know… This $200 million talk has got very depressed about Fielder.
If he’s traded in the off season or during the season, we will still need someone to play 1B, which is how this conversation started.
My goodness.
by BrewHaHeather on Apr 15, 2010 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions
Depressed
I seriously doubt anyone is going to sign Fielder to that long of a contract, but it does mean that he’s likely not going to stick around.
I think the tell-tale sign of DM giving up on keeping Fielder is if they shift Gamel or another top prospect to 1B.
Yeah, I doubted that too, once I thought about it
But I still haven’t been able to shake off that feeling yet.
My goodness.
by BrewHaHeather on Apr 15, 2010 2:50 PM CDT up reply actions
"Out of contention"
This is probably something that should be covered in a longer post, but I think as long as the Brewers are in the NL Central they’ll never be entirely out of contention.
Take this year, for example. The Cardinals are the favorite, projected for somewhere between 86-90 wins. If they win 86, a .500 team won’t be mathematically eliminated until late September.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
You think the 2011 Brewers will win 70 games?
I’d be curious to hear your logic.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
Not really
Has to produce or he’ll be worth an OF prospect who plays crummy D and has holes in his swing.

Soup has gotten 3 guys to strike out swinging? And Z is at nearly 90 pitches in less than 4 innings? Did Soup find Looper’s magic Amulet of Run Support?
That would only make sense if the Cubs had 5 runs already, but the Brewers were still winning.

But then we wouldn't get to enjoy
another inning of Suppan’s excellence on the mound
Brewers Baseball and other assorted nonsense (mostly the assorted nonsense) at my blog, What's a Tararrel?
Dear Macha,
Please tell me that Suppan batting was just so we didn’t waste a Counsell AB
Oh Rickie, you're so fine. You're so fine, you blow my mind. Hey Rickie! Hey Rickie!
If Suppan faces one batter, then gets pulled
Then I’m going back into full-fledged “fire Macha” mode.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
As opposed to kinda-fledged "Maybe we should let him battle Macha" mode?
:P

Thought you already were.
I'm not arguing, I'm just offering a relentlessly contrarian point of view.
you in half-fledged now?

I mention it when it comes up now.
But it’s more like “casual mention” and less like “outright campaign.”
Now that's great tasting chicken!
What are the odds he only faces one batter?
Unless the first one injures someone on top of a house across the street with a batten ball, Suppan is seeing multiple batters.
When there is a scuffle in Ireland, there’s no need to specifically mention in the news story that alcohol was involved

He wasn't giving them much choice, really.
it sounds like he might’ve chucked the ball at Pinella if he tried to take him out.
My general rule of thumb
It is safe to stop caring about the outcome of the game when the manager has done the same.
When there is a scuffle in Ireland, there’s no need to specifically mention in the news story that alcohol was involved
What's that mean?
if the manager cared, he wouldn’t be starting Suppan.
I'm not arguing, I'm just offering a relentlessly contrarian point of view.
Those are some dirty deeds there.

If so
Then they better get Randolph up in the managing bullpen to do some practice lineup card writing.

I wonder what the rest of the starters say about Soup when he's not around
Oh Rickie, you're so fine. You're so fine, you blow my mind. Hey Rickie! Hey Rickie!
If they have a concept
dickie_thon: Third baseman Bill Hall / Watches the third strike go by / Gamel grabs his glove
Lee winced after that swing again
Defensive substitute at 1st, I’m calling it

Back under a Suppan
Potentially no Suppans in this game. Still need 12 runs for my Over! Go Brewers. 8-4 final score.
