Yo!
So … how many years of FA do they buy out?
Either way
This is a lot of money to spend just to distract us from the Suppan thing.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
i hope the reason for the presser is a mistake
As soup can’t pitch in appleton on schedule due to the snow out, they’ve decided that it’ll just be simpler to let him go.

I hope that is an addendum to the presser, after the Yovani extension.
Because I want both.

I'm actually on the fence about this
Gallardo is no doubt amazing, but he’s had stretches of inconsistancy. Also, if this in any way impedes signing Fielder (or another good offensive first baseman) we may be hurting ourself in the long run. We don’t make as much as the Yankees, so it’s hard to compete with the big market clubs. Basically, signing YG commits ourselves to the “win soon” mentality, meaning we’ll have to develop almost the entire rest of our team from within for a while.
Maybe it will be a really affordable contract like Braun's
And we have to develope most of the team from within anyway.
My goodness.

I'm looking at it differently
In all likelihood, signing a long term deal, especially for a pitcher, probably buys out arbitration at lower amounts than those years would cost under arbitration since we’re taking on the risk, and maybe buys out a year or two of free agency. This might actually help in signing Fielder or other big contracts.

I view it a little differently.
I agree with you about his inconsistancy. But I think it’s just a matter of him continuing to develop as a pitcher. By the end of next season, I expect him to be a full-on major league ace. And we’ll have him locked up for several years after that.

the one thing i do worry about, though is how many innings he pitched last year
Considering he didn’t pitch hardly at all in 2008. It’s an incredibly steep inline, so hopefully it won’t result in an injury.

I enjoy coming back from failing a math test to find good news.
Thank you for cheering me up!

And someone on Brewerfan says this guy has been accurate before:
Here’s the details of the deal:
2010 $500,000
2011 $3.25mil
2012 $5.5mil
2013 $7.75mil
2014 $11.25mil
2015 $13mil club option / $600,000 buyout
Speculate away!
Get a ife broseph
Which of those years are FA years?
Applying Simpsons and Star Wars quotes to Brewers discussions since 2009.
If this is true
it sounds like great news!

It's accurate, sez McCalvy:
According to the AP, Gallardo receives a $1.25 million signing bonus, $500,000 payable when the contract is approved by Major League Baseball, $500,000 on July 15 and $250,000 on Nov. 15. His 2010 salary was bumped up to $500,000 and he will earn $3.25 million next season, $5.5 million in 2012, $7.75 million in 2013 and $11.25 million in 2014. The 2015 option calls for a $13 million salary with a $600,000 buyout.
So $41.25MM/6 years?
I can live with that, for sure.

Aww, damn. Reply fail.
I get so proud when I go on a good run without doing that and now it’s ruined.

I think my first ever post here was a reply fail
Some would say its been downhill from there…
"I hope your name is Rick"
Let's not get carried away now.
My goodness.

It's semi-official

No $ yet, but the 2014-15 is unofficially-confirmed
The new deal runs through 2014, covering this season, all three of Gallardo’s arbitration seasons and at least one year of free agency. It includes an option for a sixth year in 2015, the details of which will be covered in a news conference at Miller Park scheduled for 3 p.m. CT today.
