Can I vote to move Capuano to Curiosities?
I’m bound to lose track of when he’s on the mound sooner or later, but at some point he’ll miss the Top Performers line and I’ll forget to check.
I second that!
I’m guessing by mid July the Brewers have 4 lefties in the rotation! Watch out Cinci!
Probably not ...
… since Davis would probably be the one booted if (when?) Cappy gets the call.
He's an injury replacement
That pitch count seems to me to a sign that the Brewers view him as a potential starter than a good bullpen option. While Suppan is, at the moment, the most likely replacement starter on the current roster, a white hot Capuano come June or July might get a chance if/when an injury replacement is needed.
Cappy
8 IP, 84 pitches.
Think we could use a couple starts like that?
AAA guys aren't MLB guys, though
I’m not saying he isn’t pitching well, but the Brewers pitchers seem to be getting a lot of their good pitches fouled off these days and that kind of plate discipline and defensive approach at the plate just doesn’t happen as much in AAA.
I am reminded
Of a time last season when I got way too excited over a similar performance by Tim Dillard.
With that said, it is encouraging.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I would say the situations are different
Capuano has a track record of success (performance, if not W-L) in the majors. He knows how to pitch and he’s stood up to the pressure at the major league level. Pitchers very rarely lose that. Dillard never really had that background.
The only concern I really have about Capuano is physical. If his arm holds up, he’ll be in a starting rotation in 2011 somewhere, if not Milwaukee.
He's got a track record of pitching in the majors...
… not sure if I’d go out and call it a successful one.
Successful for a mid ’aught’s Brewer, maybe, but that’s not saying much.
I'm not arguing, I'm just offering a relentlessly contrarian point of view.
Flagged
because “aughts” is stupid.

What do you consider success?
He had a rough 2007 (was he injured in June? I know he didn’t throw a full season), but his 2005 and 2006 were good by any metric, not just for a mid 00’s Brewer.
2005 209 IP, 35 GS, ERA 3.99, WHIP 1.384, ERA+ 107
2006 221 IP, 34 GS, ERA 4.03, WHIP 1.247, ERA+ 113
Any left-handed starter with that history and minor league indications of returning to form is going to get a look from more than a few teams. Even a righty would turn some heads.
He was an average starter
Not good, not bad, average. A solid 4-5 starter, sure.
Not saying he won’t get a look, there’s a lot of room for average players in the game. If he gets back to his 2005-2006 form (which is an extreme tail event, in my opinion), he’ll get plenty of looks. I just hope people aren’t assuming he’s gonna come back and be lights out, because, well, he never was.
I'm not arguing, I'm just offering a relentlessly contrarian point of view.
I'm also not sure he'll get "plenty of looks," at least from most teams.
A roster spot is relatively valuable, and most teams would have to DFA someone to make a spot for a pitcher who could be good, but also could implode at any moment.
Now that's great tasting chicken!

I think he'd get some interest...
but the offers wouldn’t be much more than a minor league contract and an invitation to ST from any other organization.
He was well above average
221.1 IP of 4.04 FIP pitching? That is very solid, and not a fifth starter in any team’s rotation.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
Top performers
why was Trent Oeltjen included but not Lucroy? They were both 1 for 4 and Lucroy had more RBIs. Trent had one more run, but that probably came as a result of reaching base because of a fielders choice. Lucroy also didn’t K. Neither walked.
In other words, what’s the metric? I would think it should be SOMETHING like OPS*10-K-CS*2+SB-E+RBI+R/2+H*2-AB*2.
Or was lucroy not included in performers because he is in prospects? But I swear I’ve seen someone appear both places before.
they don't appear in both places
the metric is batting game score http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/pi_glossary.shtml
