Capuano's 3rd Start
As per #AdamMcCalvy 6.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 98 pitches, 65 strikes.
Really can't argue with that result.

He has to be called up or become a free agent
and I imagine the Brewers will do just that. Who goes down then or is released? Suppan? (pipe-dream?), Estrada, Braddock…?
I was disappointed with the lack of hookers but the pancakes were delightful
He's got one more start before the cut-off date
Unless he injures himself, I think he has to get a chance at the big league level. I’m sure DM is at least seeing if there are any offers for him.
I’m not convinced the Brewers won’t just let him walk if they can’t trade him. Their roster is beyond full at the moment. If no one gets seriously, seriously injured then the only player I see them dropping is Vargas, because it’s the only contract that wouldn’t be a complete embarrassment to drop.
If this last week has shown us anything
Its that the bullpen has been taken over by our young talent of the future. Capuano isn’t necessarily that (at least of the long-term future), but I don’t think you sacrifice the young talent by optioning them back down. I’d really see them cut some of the older, veteran dead weight (Varags – over Suppan, who is pitching well out of the pen) and set the table for our young guys to take over the pen for good. Axford, Braddock, and Estrada need to stay up for good.

not only that
but you can’t just option someone down. You need to drop someone from the 40-man roster, exposing them to being claimed by another team. In other words, if/when Cappy gets promoted they have to cut Cruz, Heether, Stetter, Suppan, etc. Same when they activate anyone else (ie Gamel or Riske) from the 60 day DL.

But out of
“Cruz, Heether, Stetter, Suppan”
Only 1 is likely to get claimed by another team.
Shruggity.
Ooh, ooh, ooh!
I know the answer! Pick me! Pick me!

I suppose you could throw Stern on that list
but he seems to be the favorite 40-man roster whipping boy. No need burning anyone else’s options

Options don't matter when booting someone off the 40-man roster
Look on the bright side, Stern could be Norris Hopper. More MLB experience but in Nashville all along.
Failure is just success rounded down.
but you burn an option the first time in a year that you demote someone from the 25 man right?
at least that was my point. As in, we’ve already used up an option on Stern this year (and Stetter, and will likely do so for Braddock and Lucroy), so no use kicking Stern off the 40 man and then using Heether, Cruz or Cain (or Salome for that matter if he would be otherwise brought up for a DH or non-C role) in the same way.

Options were used for all those guys, too
When they were sent down in the middle or at the end of spring training.
Failure is just success rounded down.
okeydoke
so free pass on anyone in major league spring training? So…basically it cost nothing to bring lucroy up this year?

I don't know what you mean by free pass
If a player was on the 40-man roster but did not break camp on the 25-man roster, an option was used to send him to the minor leagues. Thus, the team used an option to send Cain, Cruz, and Heether (among others) down in March. Anyone with an invite to spring training (i.e., Lucroy & Stern) but who was not on the 40-man roster did not have an option used in March since they had a minor league contract to begin with.
Stern and Lucroy were not added to the 40-man roster until they were called up. The team used one of Stern’s options when he was sent down and will use one of Lucroy’s options if/when he is sent down. If the team needs to make room on the 40-man and DFAs somebody, it doesn’t matter how many options that player has left because he will no longer be on the 40-man roster. Then it comes down to him clearing waivers before he is outrighted to the minors. If the player has been outrighted before, he can reject the assignment and become a free agent. If it is his first time being outrighted, he is stuck in the organization.
Failure is just success rounded down.
So, basically
When Lucroy didn’t break camp with the team, it didn’t cost an option because he wasn’t on the 40 man at the time?
The cost of bringing Lucroy up, however, is having to put Gamel on the 60-DL.

but his name is not commonly typed in ALL CAPS
so…that eliminates one of them.

As great as Stetter was last year
Are we a good enough team (or a good enough bullpen) to have a pitcher that is essentially batting practice off of righties? When our bullpen is solid, its great to have someone like Stetter in there who can come in during a jam and strike out a couple of lefties. To me, even when he is good, he may be too situational to be worth a spot. Now you can add that he isn’t the greatest, I think you cut him.
….Or Vargas. Vargas sucks.
