It's early in the season, but with starting pitchers averaging around 8 starts to date I thought it would be fun to take a look at how each of the offseason's free agent starting pitchers have performed so far. The Diamond in the Rough Award to this point in the season goes Livan Hernadez of the Nationals with a large asterisk (notably a .213 BABIP).
I'm sure there's a ton of luck at this point in the season, but below you'll find some relevant numbers for those that are interested.
Randy Wolf is middle of the pack while we're all well aware of Doug Davis' ineffectiveness before his unfortunate and ongoing stint on the DL.
Jason Marquis is out until at least mid-July with elbow surgery - an injury that may have explained his early ineffectiveness. If that's the case, the early early GM award goes to Mike Rizzo of the Nationals for spending $1.9 million total on Livan Hernandez and Scott Olsen collectively accounting for about 2.9 WAR (this is sure to decrease as Hernandez' luck begins to even out).
Those lamenting Melvin's signings can at least know that Billy Beane has done no better.

Erik Bedard ($1.5 mil) has not pitched an inning for the Mariners due to injury and is currently on the 60-day DL.
Kelvim Escobar ($1.25 mil) of the Angels is already out for the season having never thrown a regular season pitch.
It looks like Jose Contreras ($1.5 mil) is pitching out of the bullpen for the White Sox Phillies this year (thanks MadtownTim).
