In all likelihood, the chances of the Brewers shelling out Price's market price or Scott Boras settling for less than $200 seem unlikely at best, impossible at worse. The Brewers gave up a lot to get a 1/2 year rental for C.C., what would a 1 and 1/2 year rental for Prince get us back? I love Fielder just as much as the next guy, but when you take out Prince's ~$13-15m salary next year and the rest of the expiring money (Suppan, Hall, Hoffman, Looper, Riske combined free up $30m), PLUS whatever players the club would get back from trading Fielder, the flexibilty we would have would be mouth watering. To better gauge what the Brewers should do, does anybody have an opinion on what he could return in the open market?

Personally, I would absolutely hate to see him play next year for the Brewers and walk away after signing a huge contract with the Yankees that was double our offer. I'd like to cut bait now, extend Rickie and Coffey and bank on a 3 year core of Braun, Yo, Wolf, Esbobar, Casey, Rickie, Coffey, what we get back for Fielder, and a sh*t ton of cash.
