The team sucks, so let's talk about how awesome Kottaras is.
His slash stats are .217/.411/.493. In other words, he has a .900+ OPS with a .217 average (.396 wOBA, in case you were wondering). Of course he can't keep it up all season, but damn is it awesome while it lasts right now.

Mickey Tettleton holds the full season record for lowest batting average with a .900+ OPS
He had an OPS of .906 while hitting .238 in 1995. He hit 32 HR.
Failure is just success rounded down.
Thanks for that
I was going to try to do some research on that sort of thing, but my skills aren’t so great at that.
Brewers Baseball and other assorted nonsense (mostly the assorted nonsense) at my blog, What's a Tararrel?
Why can't he keep it up all season?
The only thing that would stop the trend is if pitchers actually start throwing him strikes rather than pitching around him to get to a pitcher with a much higher average. :)

fair enough

Man,
that is impressive. That Tettleton season is freakishly cool
Isn't the THT award the "Harmon Killebrew batting average is for sissies" award?
Applying Simpsons and Star Wars quotes to Brewers discussions since 2009.
Kottaras
In 26 games, he has more homers than Kendall hit in two years as a Brewer. Plus, he has a nicer looking beard.
hate to jinx this
but I remember Kendall starting out strong too (not with HRs, of course)

I find it very ironic
that your name is “keephopealive” yet you bring up this unfortunate comparison to suck the hope right out of all of us.
My goodness.

maybe I will switch to: keepironyalive
i’m actually pretty high on Kottaras… I just remember at some point posting how after N games, Kendall had already contributed more than Estrada had in a whole year. I stand by that statement too

In other words...
Estrada < Kendall < Kottaras
Don’t smoke too much Kottaras… it’ll stunt your growth.
But does he call a good game?
My goodness.

George Kottaras fact
He could hit 800 foot home runs but he uses weakened bats to spare the other players’ feelings.
Failure is just success rounded down.

every time the wife sees him
she says:
The Brewers have totally found the Klotarras, the little catcher in the boat
I married well
"That's not a weird stat. Rickie is a run-scorer," Yost said. "It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter," Yost told reporters. "See, you guys have no concept. He's a run-scorer. So there's nothing weird about it. That's what he does."

He needs to start throwing out base stealers.
Defensive ability is what defines a quality catcher.
One man's garbage is another man-person's good ungarbage.
don't forget the gamecalling ability
seriously, both offense and defense are components. Yes, he’s weaker on defense, but I’d rather have him than Kendall.
Fun fact
George Kottaras has an OPS+ of 142 this year. That’s higher than Ryan Braun (137), Prince Fielder (127), Casey McGehee (125), and Corey Hart (138).
My goodness.
