Brewers 5, Astros 9
W: Gustavo Chacin (1-0)
L: Todd Coffey (2-2)
HR: Braun (11)
MVP: Corey Hart (+.199)
LVP: Todd Coffey (-.420)
A very sad graph
SBNation Coverage
The offense got going early tonight against Bud Norris, scoring in each of the first three innings. Ryan Braun got things started with an RBI single in the first, driving in Corey Hart. Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart added three more runs to the board in the second inning and Ryan Braun homered in the third to give the Brewers a 5-1 lead.
But then, the offense died. And so did the pitching. Manny Parra struggled with his control all night and had thrown 96 pitches by 6th inning. He was left in to start the 6th inning but allowed the first two runners to reach and was lifed in favor of Carlos Villanueva. Who was lifted in favor of Todd Coffey. Who was soon lifted in favor of Zach Braddock. Long story short, both of Manny's baserunners scored, and then some. And then some more. David Riske allowed two runs in 1 inning, the first runs he has given up this year.
The game was far enough out of reach that Chris Capuano rose from the dead and was actually allowed to pitch the ninth; his first appearance since June 12th. He pitched a scoreless inning.

Does this guy even watch the game today? He’s making it sound like Parra lost the game. Granted, he didn’t pitch as well as he has been, but it was the bullpen that ultimately blew the game.
I think he’s thrown off be because Kate wasn’t working today.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
Yeah he couldn't thank her, and hold her to that five times

agree
I’m honestly pretty happy with the starting pitching recently, which is dare I say fairly auspicious. Bullpens will blow it sometimes. Just as long as most of the starters are getting to the point of pitching more innings and there are extra arms in the pen to keep them from getting burnt out, the rest of the season could go well, that’s not to say that the Brewers can get out of their giant self-dug hole by any means, though.
But then again Doug Davis might come in and bomb five or six games while keeping reps from poor Parra or Narveson.
You have to wonder how enthusiastic Capuano can remain
How long can the feeling of self-satisfaction keep you warm in the cavernous depths of the bullpen?
P.S. Spelled “appearance” wrong in the last sentence.
Hopefully Gallardo can even up the series tomorrow.
I’m heading to the game.

Off topic here....
Jimenez has “a game” going thru six innings in San Diego.
Jim Joyce is at first for anyone that cares.

Actually, thru five, since they're on the road.

Parra
Well, they tried squeezing another inning out of Manny tonight, and he proceeded to put the first two batters on base.

Dammit
This isn’t the first time I’ve done that either.
My goodness.

Houston scored more than 9 runs once
Back in April against Pittsburgh, in between our 17- and 20-run games against them. We should probably feel worse about last night’s game than we already do.
Another decent start ruined by the bullpen.
I don’t get why people are so high on Newhouse. I’m getting really tired of watching him blow these leads. I still don’t understand why it wasn’t Riske or Loe. Macha has this mindset that it can only be Loe in the 8th. In a high pressure situation, I want Loe. Newhouse can start the 8th, since it seems like he pitches well when a starts an inning.

He was also great at getting ground ball outs...
you can’t just use Loe and Axford every day…
although that’d be nice
Exactly.
Plus, Riske wasn’t any better… he did give up a couple runs.

except for Cappy
:)
sorry, had to throw that out there…:)
