Time to check out
Milwaukee’s Summer Muni Leagues for fillers?
"When you really, really break it down the only numbers that count is how many runs you help (produce) and how many runs you save. There’s really not a number for that." --Casey McGehee
That's what I wondered.
Too busy with draft prep to worry about silly things like keeping a full major league roster?

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

Only reliever they could call up is Stetter
Maybe couldn’t get him to tonight’s game on time.

Riske is the projected replacement for Coffey. I guess with Heether leaving we have the spot.
Gamel took Heether's spot on the 40-man
Last Thursday or Friday, the TV guys alluded to a Tuesday meeting between the field staff and the front office to talk pitching and set up the rotation and bullpen, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if a spot is opened after that.

I don't know
But the reason Heether was waived was to open a spot for Gamel on the 40-man roster, not the 25-man roster. That made the 40-man roster full again, so they will need to open another spot for Riske.

okay
thanks for the correction. I forgot that gamel had been off the 40-man when he was on the 60 day.
(or essentially speaking)
60 day DL players are still officially on the 40-man (and thus getting paid MLB salary rates), but don’t take an active slot? Is that how it works?
Yes
Side note: a team can only use the 60-day DL if their 40-man roster is full.

questions
can they put multiple players on the 60 day simultaneously? Ie, cut from 40 to 37 or so? would you need to immediately fill those 3 slots with other players, or do you have a couple of days to do so? Can you 60 day DL someone and add someone from outside of the org (ie trade or FA signing)? Or does it have to be internal?
Does that mean they HAD to activate someone from the 60 day DL (or promote someone else I suppose) when Heether was dropped from the 40-man?
Is this rule so that teams don’t run around with 30 men on their 40 man rosters so they don’t have to pay higher salaries to more players? Seems kinda silly to me.

As long as the spot is filled, I don't think it matters where the player came from
Occasionally you will see a trade followed by a team putting someone on the 60-day DL to open a spot.
I think the rule exists because the 60-day DL allows teams to expand the number of players (40) they are allowed to call up. If a team has only 39 players on their 40-man roster, there’s no need to expand past 40 if one of them is hurt.
