So the Braunophile is about to turn 7. He's to point now where he no longer listens to insipid kids' music (he likes rock and the occasional pop tune) but he's still young enough that I have to watch what's coming on the radio when we're driving in the car. The wife and I have decided to get him an iPod Touch for his upcoming birthday. While one of the main reasons is to get kid-friendly apps to keep him occupied in the car or on airplanes, I also want to load some playlists for him. And, since he loves baseball, I'm looking to put together a kid-appropriate baseball-themed playlist.
I know there have been posts in previous years on baseball-themed music, and I've found a few sites that list "top 10 baseball songs" or similar themes. There are some obvious inclusions: Centerfield, Take Me Out to the Ballgame, The Cheap Seats, Talking Baseball, Right Field, Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball?, maybe even Sweet Caroline (though I loathe the Sawx). There are a few others that the Braunophile specifically associates with baseball: All-Star (by Smashmouth), Calling All Angels (Train - they play this along with a video montage right before every Angels game, and I get a little choked up when they show Nick Adenhart). I might include some general summer-themed songs as well (Boys of Summer, Soak up the Sun, and pretty much the entire Beach Boys catalog. Unfortunately I can't in good conscience put All Summer Long or California Gurls on a 7-year-olds playlist; those belong on Daddy's iPod).
Anybody have any less obvious choices for some good age-appropriate baseball or summer songs? (Keep in mind I don't want anything that glorifies the Cubs!)
