Plate discipline FTW.
Brewer fans have become accustomed to watching Brewer pitchers walk batters with the bases loaded but tonight they got to see how the other half lives, as Rickie Weeks' bases loaded free pass gave the Brewers the lead for good in the Brewers' second straight victory.
The Brewers trailed 2-1 and Chris Narveson appeared to be on his way to a hard luck loss before the top of the seventh, when Prince Fielder's solo home run and Weeks' walk reversed the outcome. Narveson bounced back from recent struggles nicely tonight with a quality start, allowing two runs (on a Matt Diaz home run) over six innings, walking one and striking out two. It was just his second quality start in his last six outings.
Other stuff of note:
- Corey Hart went 2-for-4 with a three run double, and now has hits in eight straight games and 28 of 29.
- Todd Coffey, appearing in the third straight game, allowed a run on two hits in the seventh. That snapped a streak of 13 straight batters retired.
- Things got ugly in the top of the eighth when Braves reliever Jonny Venters threw the first pitch of the inning over Prince Fielder's head, then hit him in the middle of the back with the second one. Venters and Bobby Cox were ejected.
- John Axford recorded the final four outs for his 11th save, and his third save longer than one inning.

But SB Nation, I hope you will take down your ad for your roundtable or whatever that is, or at least move it below FanPosts so fans who don’t give a crap about Alex Gonzalez snark can see potentially interesting, team-related material.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

Just another step in the slow ESPNization of every sports site everywhere.

I know most people aren't exceptionally interested in the company's bottom line
But the reason the Blackberry ad is there is because they’re paying for it.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I understand the need to make money.
And it’s not all that bad yet. But I’ve abandoned sports sites before because I simply could no longer deal with sifting through pop ups, scrolling ads, promotional videos that run without me asking them too and other stuff like that. As SBN sorts itself out as a business I think we all knew we’d start to see stuff like the “sponsored posts” that crop up on other SBN sites. That Blackberry ad is the first one I’ve found genuinely annoying. I just hope at some point it normalizes somewhere on this side of unbearable.

I recommend getting Firefox + Adblock
It doesn’t block the current Blackberry thing, but it still makes browsing the internet 50x better.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
Got 'em both.
Doesn’t mean I’m going back. Sooner or later they find away to get around Firefox and Adblock, and if I can get the same thing somewhere else without the ad density, why bother?

Understood
Maybe next time they can do without the uninteresting snark.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
I say we put one in somebody's ear hole tomorrow.

I'd settle for Cox getting his ass bounced again by the ump....

That happens so much
It’s lost all meaning.

It would make the game interesting
Doubt it will happen, unfortunately.

I love on-field instructionals
If only I havent been out of baseball for so-long, I couldve used some of this info

STATS agrees

I rarely check trending Twitter topics
but i searched Prince Fielder and everyone seems to state their disgust with HIM, saying that he is a chump or one of their most hated players or whatnot… I just wonder how anything he did in tonight’s game warranted any sort of bad reaction from anyone. So he finished high on his HR swing, big deal.
i wouldn’t hate him even if he was a Cub.

Even with the Brewers Blinders
I don’t get the Prince hatred either. Outside of the Prince-plosion, he doesn’t Cadillac his homers any more than any number of guys.
Stuff like that happens when you rip your Dad publicly and try to break into an opposing team's clubhouse.
We see him every day, so we the smiles, the playfulness, and his periodic generosity with the fans and his time. Most other teams see the highlights where he shoved Parra, slams the bench, pounds on a cooler, and cusses in front of a bunch of kids during the homerun contests when he popped up a pitch.
It doesn’t help that Pujols has been subtly ripping him in the press on a periodic basis for the last few years. But Prince has done some stuff to hurt his image. There’s no getting around that.

Not saying I agree with it.
Just saying that’s what other people who don’t watch him every day get to see on ESPN.

I'm having a memory lapse..
I recall him trying to get into the opposing teams clubhouse, but I can’t remember for the life of me what for..

That all definitely hurts
but will Papi have a backlash for cussing in Spanish during this year’s derby? I blame Pujols. (Though, to be fair, I also blame him for SARS.)

Once he's on a big market team in a couple years
everyone will see him all the time and get to know him better. So that’s…good?
Not for us.
But it will be nice to see him a little less vilified than he is now. Unless he’s a Yankee.

due to Prince's attitude of it being all about the money
I won’t have an improved opinion of him when he’s making bank. In fact, I’ll laugh when he goes down the same road as his father did. But if he signs a surprise contract extension stays with the Brewers through thick and thin, I’ll change my opinion of him as a person.
Regardless, he’s an awesome slugger.
by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 18, 2010 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions 2 recs
I won't have a different opinion either.
My point is only that once he’s somewhere where he’s seen on more than highlight reels of him doing bad stuff, then perceptions across the country might be a little more representative of the kind of player he really is. I don’t think people outside this market always get to see the good stuff.
As for the money thing, I can see your point. But it’s hard for me to blame a guy for maximizing his earnings when his personal experiences include watching his Dad somehow spend the family into financial trouble after making millions, and then, depending on whom you believe, having that same Dad take a little more from your first contract agreement than you thought he would. Wouldn’t have made any difference, but the Brewers didn’t help the situation by quibbling over a few hundred thousand before Fielder became arbitration eligible.

As to Dad and finances
it’s irresponsible to think if you just earn more than Pops did, you’ll be covered for life. Frankly, he should shore up his finances without worrying exactly how much that is, as as soon as he retires from baseball, he’s not going to make nearly as much money anymore.
The lesson he should have learned from his Father’s situation is responsibility – not let-me-see-how-much-money-I-can-make

I don't disagree...
… but you can’t always expect kids to draw rational conclusions from the misconduct of their parents. That’s why kids who witness or experience domestic abuse are statistically more likely to abuse their family members when they’re adults.

Elsewhere in good news..
Four Brothers is on TNT… now i have something to watch
"There are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary. And there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance."
Take a seat and cool it ‘cause unless you overrule it
We are ready to show you some blowin’
A rompin’ and a stompin’ is a lot of fun
Four brothers who are blowin’ our horns
So settle down an’ listen ‘cause you don’t know what you’re missin’
And we’re ready to give you a showin’
A movin’ it ‘n groovin’ it has just begun
Four brothers who are blowin’ our horns
We got a little message that you’re gonna enjoy
Ain’t no sense in dodgin’ the facts
So settle in your easy chair an’ if you ever had a care – forget it,
It’s time to relax
You might as well admit it, we’re the best that ever did it
But in case you ain’t too sure o’ knowin’
We’re gonna let you listen to us one by one
Four brothers who are blowin’ our horns
JANIS:
How’d ya do, I’m talkin’ about you
It’s very nice to know that you have really taken time to listen to me blow
‘Cause as sure as I’m born, I’m blowin’ my horn
Listen’t’me baby, I’m blowin’, zootin’ it up
And I hope you dig the sounds I’m makin’ more’n any other
Now I must go for it’s time for you to listen to my other brother
TIM:
I think the chick’s talkin’ ‘bout me so I’d better go ‘n see
I’m hip that she knows a horn is very best to greet you
That’s the reason I’m blowin’ so snappily
I don’t know what ya got, but it thrills me an’ I hope to have a lot
‘Cause it puts me in clover
So baby, if you would like to dig my other brother
You’re gonna have to turn the record over
ALAN:
Hey hey hey
Who ya talkin’ about, say who ya talkin’ about
Did I hear you say you’d introduce your other brother
‘Cause in case I heard you talkin’ about three, that’s me
Pleased to meet you, how’d you do, how are you, nothin’s new,
How is everything with you?
Whattya say I leave this jazz up to my brother —
CHERYL:
Dig dig dig my Long Island sound
I hope you’re puttin’ it down
You got me in a mood that’s so romantic
If you noticed you can take this silly old actin’
‘Cause I’m actin’ so distracted when I dig you
Pretty baby you will never know how much I really dig you
You have got me so excited that I goofed blowin’ my horn
ALL:
Boop bop the news is gettin’ around, we’re really puttin’ it down
We’re glad, in fact, to know that you enjoy it and we wish we had the time to give you
more
Thank you for the compliment
You told us we were better just as though we didn’t know it
We’re hip that we’re the best, we’re over all the rest
We’re in the modern school, we always play it cool, we never play the fool
The honkers and the squeakers might be stealin’ the show
But we don’t go for that, so while we blow
BAND MEMBER:
Hi-ho, lackaday, boy it’s a natural fact
I ain’t no kin, but I would like to get in the act!
ALL:
Well get outta here, get outta here, get outta here now
Fellas we appreciate it makin’ you mad,
But we must ask you to apologize
Because after all he’s in our band
Four brothers, four brothers, four brothers
Although we sound like more
Four brothers, four brothers, four brothers
We’re really only four
We like to blow but we don’t know how time can fly and how an hour can pass away
We wish the time would never go so we could take our time an’ blow ’til judgement day
Four brothers, four brothers, four brothers
Now just one final word:
JANIS: I’m happy to know you and I hope I don’t forget you
TIM: It’s really a pleasure and I hope I don’t look silly to you
ALAN: I’m hopin’ the story that I told did not upset you
CHERYL: Sorry, now in conclusion we are hoping that you heard four
ALL:
So just before we go we want you to know -
We’re glad you let us show you how we always end up with that jazz
(We don’t go for braggin’ but we’re blowin’ our own…
Horn!
