Questions for the locals

Hi Brewers fans,

Yeah, not real great timing, huh?  No worries, I'm not here to talk trash about our teams going at it right now, although I am a little disgusted at my boys' propensity to pop out for about 16 out of 27 outs a game the last two nights.  No, the reason I visit your guys' site is completely unrelated to the Brewers versus the Braves.

I'm one of those many baseball nerds who feels compelled to travel to other parks, and that being said, I'm going to be hitting up Miller Park next Sunday, as you guys host the Washington Nationals.  This game is being sandwiched in between a Cubs game and White Sox game, and I'll be staying in Chicago during my entire trip, while making the 90-mile drive on Sunday to visit Milwaukee.

That being said, I apologize in advance if many of you have had to answer questions from visitors several times before, and I'd love it if some of you could point me in the right direction to prior fanposts or visitor's guides you might already have written in the past; the SBN search function almost never works for me when I use it.

So yeah, I do have a few questions that I'm hoping some of you locals might be able to help me out with.  Firstly, parking - what's it cost to park at Miller?  Are there any auxiliary lots that might be cheaper?

As for tickets - it's almost certain at this point that Sunday's game will not have Stephen Strasburg pitching, as he pitched on Friday, and the every-fifth day rule he's on right now has him missing that day, so I'm not actually that concerned with getting tickets at the gate.  But just out of curiosity, since I'm certainly not above the option to sniffing out a scalper, does Miller Park actually have scalpers nearby where I might be able to snag 1-2 quality tickets at below face value?

What should I keep in mind when visiting Miller Park?  Are there any notable sights or foods or stands that I should consider?  Any iconic sections or places where I can find an interesting story?

Lastly, food.  I love food, and I love to eat.  C'mon now.  Being a Sunday, is there any place recommendable for me to wake a little earlier and get to Milwaukee where I could have a nice brunch or something?  Any recommended restaurants or bars for after the game?  Any highly recommended local food that I should make mandatory?

I know there are a lot of questions, and I appreciate any suggestions, ideas, or funny remarks you guys can come up with.  As gratitude, I'd be more than happy to return and write up something in the style of the links below, if you guys are interested on what an outsider thinks of your city/venue.

Thanks in advance, and I hope you guys have some great ideas!

Welcome

This thread just covered a lot of your questions. General parking is $9, and there are plenty of scalpers walking around. I’ve never bought from them, so I can’t vouch for the prices. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I’d like to hear your thoughts about Milwaukee and Miller Park. Hope you enjoy it!

Wow

Talk about a case of “so obvious I missed it” with the Fanpost dealing with pretty much exactly what I’m dealing with, just a day earlier. Thanks for the direction there!

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Have Fun!

General Parking at a weekend game is $10. Officially, the scalper’s section is outside of Helfaer Field – the Little League park built on the site of old County Stadium. They’re not supposed to sell tickets over face value there, although I don’t know how that rule get’s enforced.

Road Construction Warning

Just remembered something else. The highway (I-94) between Milwaukee & Chicago is slowly being rebuilt. Don’t forget to account for construction delays, although you’re fortunate that you’re making the trip on Sunday. The traffic will be lighter that morning.

I read your reviews of the other ballparks. Anyone who can say nice things about the Metrodome should have no problem liking Miller Park.

Greetings

I’m pretty sure parking is only $8.

If I were you, I’d dispense looking for a place to do brunch. I’d eat something light for breakfast and then see if you can crash a tailgate or just eat at the stadium. It will be worth your while to sample as many of the five sausages as possible.

I typically sit in whichever free cheap seats (400 level) I can scrounge up for free. But I’ve found the bleachers to be a tremendous value and was also recently told that the 200 level by the press box is terrific.

Or just have your own tailgate.

If you’re driving to MKE, it would be even easier as you can bring your own grill, then stop at a grocery store and pick up some meat, chips, potato salad, beer, whatever.

thread hijack

too lazy to go to the Orioles forum to post. Anyone here been to Camden? I’m going to go to a game next weekend, but I’ll be with family members (including young ones), so won’t get a chance to sample anything from the community, tailgate, or indulge in alcoholic beverages at the game. Any food items I have to try. Any awesome sight-lines I should check out?

I was to Camden one other time – but not during a game. I was at a conference at the Baltimore conference center about 1/4 mile away and found my way over a fence. Glad my tie didn’t get caught on the top of the fence :)

Boog Powell was sitting signing autographs by his BBQ tent when I was there

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

Boog's

as The Jay mentioned, the smells of his BBQ stand engulf the stadium and will make you want dead animal. As for seats, the lower outfield levels are all good (I like LF) and so is the club level.

Get well soon Ueck

Funny

I can give a little back in this regard:

The lot directly across the street from the Centerfield gates is a block of pubs and stands, most notably known as Pickle’s Pub. Fairly cheap booze is available there, and there are a lot of pretty good food vendors right outside, where you can get anything from hot dogs, sausages, but more importantly some pretty decent Maryland crab cakes. The atmosphere there is kind of college, but still pretty jovial and lively on the right game.

restaurant..

sobelmann’s. if you want milwaukee’s best burger, imo, travel about 1 mile eastward on st paul ave.

Or...

travel a few miles north on I-43 and go to Solly’s for their butterburgers. Unless you have heart problems, then you might want to steer clear. But Sobelmann’s is very good too, or AJ Bombers.

My goodness.

bobble head day

Next Sunday is Robin Yount bobblehead day…. the game has been sold out since single game tickets went on sale. Expect to pay a premium to get a ticket that day. Sorry
