Salome has to agree to stay where he is. That is after the waiver period. Teams have I think 15 days to place a waiver on him. 5 or 15. Something like that. If Salome thinks that he can sign with a team that would put him on a 40 man, then he can split and start looking for a team.
Isn't this the first time he's getting outrighted in his career? Players don't get any veto against that.
Correct
Players with 3 or more years of service time can veto the 1st time. Players with less than 3 can veto the second time.
He already cleared waivers in order to be outrighted.
Get a ife broseph
"He already cleared waivers in order to be outrighted"
I was assuming this was the case when I saw the headline. thanks for the confirmation.
So
Who takes his place? And, Why havn’t we seen Gregg Zaun placed on the 60 day? We really have like 3 spots open on the 40 Man, if you count LaTroy Hawkins, who’s been gone for more than 60 days.
We don't need the spots on the 40 man
and it’s just a matter of flipping a switch when we do.
Shruggity.
theJay said that the 40 man has to be full to use the 60 man
so I wonder if this means that someone has to be activated from the 60-day or we otherwise DO need to fill the 40 man
Perhaps they made up the whole "doesn't want to be a catcher anymore thing"
so they could drop him safely from the 40 man
Could be. Not that he was all that good as a catcher either. Have we even heard what he wants to be now?
DH?

Meh, he's playing most of his games at DH lately
yeah, RF. But…he’s not terribly athletic, from something I read, and he’s only 5’8"

yep...he's shooting himself in the foot with this one
I could imagine him at second or catcher…that’s ’bout it.
It’s a dumb move, but he’s probably just pissed because Lucroy was brought up before him. The Brewers already have made thier clear cut choice of the future Catcher and it aint Salome. With another Catcher drafted, and Kottaras playing a decent backup, Salome would never see the bigs again unless we have another injury.
there's always next year
who is to say we’ll elect to keep kottaras around for another year. he was a free agent one year signing, rigth?

I think so.
But now Salome would have to beat out Triple A Catchers Patrick Arlis, Anderson De La Rosa, Ben Johnson, and Martin Maldonado. Also Double A Catchers Dayton Butler and Sean McCraw.
I think if Salome wanted to catch again
he’d probably pass all those guys instantly, after a couple weeks of getting back into it.
Shruggity.
Yeah, I don't think any of the Triple-A catchers are regarded as anything more than roster filler.
On Salome – perhaps he’s getting moved to Brevard because they’re the highest affiliate with a DH slot in every game? Of course my side justification would be that they’d want to see what he’s capable of as a hitting-only player (mostly for trade bait reasons, naturally), and Brevard and their ballpark isn’t exactly the place to do that…who knows.
Correct
Regardless of how he was acquired, he does not have 6 years of major league service, so he remains under team control.
Similar example: Mike Rivera who was signed as a free agent out of the Atlantic League but still went to (or was eligible for) arbitration with the Brewers once he reached the majors.
Eagerly awaiting SBN Madison.
