Lorenzo Cain back to Nashville
Because the guy with the sub-.300 OBP is too valuable to send down and the guy with the sore Achilles is too healthy to go on the DL.

At least he got a lot of playing time and a few starts during his MLB stint.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
Isn't Doug Melvin a baseball GM God
I bet Lucroy would get sent down also if they could find some Gritty Vet to replace him.
Cant wait to taste the ham sandwich he trades Hart for. Who knows maybe he will also get a hand full of magic beans while he is at it
Sigh

Thanks
I think that you just summed up the problems with the front office perfectly. I now know how I will vote in all future weekly polls

Really pissed at the lack of DL
I can see not burning an option on Gomez on a season that we’re out of it though.

agree completely
Cain will only be down a little over a month, anyway. Maybe keeping Edmonds off the DL improves the likelihood of him getting sold off at the deadline? I used to think you couldn’t trade a player on the DL, but then Peavy happened last year, so I’m no longer clear on all that.

i think league office needs to approve
and the medical records need to check out and show the player has a near 100% chance of recovering before contract end

its irritating to burn an option year on Cain for pretty much nothing.
If you weren’t going to do anything with him until the September call ups, why not just bring Adam Stern back up?

his option was already burned
started spring training on the 40 man and didn’t make the team.

True
I’m still going to shake my fist in rage about it. Irrational or no.

I'm there with you
despite me not wanting them to burn Gomez’ option on a wasted year. I just hope he doesn’t break camp with the crew next year (or magically has everything figured out by then)

If the other option was to keep Cain on the roster and let him rot on the bench (see Gamel)...
then I’m fine with this move.
However, as it’s already been pointed out, the better option would be to put Edmonds on the DL and let Cain have his playing time. Granted, Edmonds is still hitting the ball well… just can’t run very well. I guess they figure they don’t need a CF that can run well.

Do you know why the 2nd consecutive Melvin/Macha year is an abject failure?
Because it’s what they deserve.

No one can disagree with that
Its just a shame that he’s not going to get that chance in the majors this year. You know…see what we’ve got for next year? The Pirates are masters at this. And apparently at smoking our starting pitching.

Eh
He has 63 career AAA ABs so it might do him some good to get some experience there. He’s got potential, but it isn’t a Braun or Fielder (or even Gamel) situation where he is banging down the door to get to the majors.
There’s a good chance he’ll get some time in August and September if Hart is traded, think its premature to say he won’t get a chance in the majors this year.

I agree
It makes no sense to rush Cain this year when the season is a lost cause, so I’m not sure why people are so upset.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

It's just frustration with Gomez and a number of other things.
Personally, I think keeping him up and playing him every day is the right move, but we know Macha’s not going to do that. So sending him down is probably a good thing. Hopefully, by the time he’s back up next season, Macha will be gone.

"There’s a good chance he’ll get some time in August and September"
Here’s the thing, though: If he’s only got 41 ABs in AAA now and that’s not enough, will that really change in August, when he’ll have 150 AAA ABs?
Now that's great tasting chicken!
If Edmonds & Hart are both gone, sure
I guess they could go crazy and start Adam Stern every day, but I doubt it.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
or if Macha/current manager elect to run the last month of the season as a tryout
he might get more playtime.
by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 23, 2010 8:32 AM CDT up reply actions
I actually wouldn't mind if he stayed in AAA all year
He got a late start to the sport and didn’t start playing until he was 17. Last year he missed over half the year due to injury. He has barely played AAA. 100 more ABs in AAA can only help, and it can hurt his development more if he gets up to the majors and struggles.
Gomez may be a lost cause, but don’t let his struggles hurt the development of another player.

Inglett in RF today
Should we commence trade rumor freak out or calmly think about the fact that on the day Cain gets sent down two guys who won’t be on the team next year are starting in the outfield?

Can't get any worse
Then yesterday… may as well start Axford at 1st. I bet you he mustache alone would be +6 runs defensively.
Per game…
nobody would be willing to run out to first base
his mustache is too fearsome.

Not a surprise
I assume he’ll be recalled in August when Edmonds clears waivers and is traded, if not sooner.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
