Merklinger has been on fire
4 starts, 25.2 IP, 23 H, 32 K, 5 BB, 1.75 ERA in July. He has bounced back well from two disasters in June (15 R, 10 ER in 1.2 IP).
He and Scarpetta are having quite the battle for pitcher of the month.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
