Gomez
He’s only three straight 3 for 4 games from a .259 average. Go go Gomez.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

Esky finally caught
Gomez in the OPS+ race. Or is it the other way around, did Gomez drop to esky’s level?

At current pace
Sometime in the next couple of weeks, you’ll be able to buy the Rangers on Amazon.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
But they might not be confident that they will be able to advance in the playoffs without more help.
True
Adding Prince Fielder as a team in bankruptcy is a pretty big playoff insurance policy though.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
Cuban can afford Prince
Plus it would be great to see Cuban crash the Old Boy Owners Club
"It's a joke. It's all a joke.
That was my thinking as well
Cause they probably look at the AL East and know that when it comes down to it, they’re going to have to outslug them.
I’m intrigued, Rangers have the prospects and pitching for this, but financial capability is certainly an obstacle.

Beginning with the 30 game span
ending June 22nd, the Brewers have been at or above 500 for all encompassing 30 game spans
I don’t know what that means.
But at least it leads to a graph showing the team has been sucking decisively less. Maybe.

http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
On the other hand
They haven’t won more than 7 games out of any 10-game stretch this season, nor more than 12 out of any 20. That’s pretty bad.

That at any point other than maybe the first week, that Weeks would be having an overall better season than Braun. He is in a bad, bad slump.

If you remove the injury factor, though
Weeks has been streaky over the course of his career, even when healthy.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I'm saying
Weeks was not great (though admittedly not as bad as gomez) the first 2 years of his career, I think most people would agree he was rushed to the majors, and now he’s breaking out.
I don’t begin to think that Gomez will end up like Week’s, he’s starting lower, and will probably max out lower, but I still think he’s got the potential to be a pretty damn good player.
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
Yeah, that guy never was good until recently
Except for when he finished 6th in rookie of the year voting, or when he was on a tear last season, or when his lowest slugging in a season was .720 as a rookie, 63 points higher than Gomez’s best ever.
by Archibaldcrane on Jul 28, 2010 1:46 PM CDT up reply actions
Right.
He (Gomez) is not going to be a superstar, most likely. I’m just saying, he’s way too young to be thrown into the “never gonna do it” bucket.
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
I agree.
I’d agree more if his attitude wasn’t so shitty. Much like Wolf bought me a lot of leeway with his “I need to work on the fact that I suck” comment, Gomez’s “I’m only a few 3 for 4 games from batting .260” crap cut down his slack considerably.
by Archibaldcrane on Jul 28, 2010 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions
I don't think he'll "never" break out
But he needs to discipline himself more before it happens. It’s tough being patient with him when we have Cain waiting in the wings.

Aren't Gomez's
minor league numbers better than Cain’s?
Just saying, we don’t know enough about Cain to assume he’s gonna be great, and besides, ideally they’re playing side by side, doesn’t have to be (and shouldn’t be) either or.
I’m all for giving him a shot, but both those guys should be playing everyday somewhere.
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
Maybe
But Cain has showed more plate patience down there and in his brief stint here. Gomez is a free swinger, which is fine if you can actually make contact.
Just saying.

YG is more valuable as a pitcher than wolf
and wolf had a decent average. Still, I don’t think that was the best of moves by macha. if edmonds could have pinch hit in the 8th or 9th, he should have been able to pinch hit in the 3rd.
by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 28, 2010 2:04 PM CDT up reply actions
Agreed.
I had a discussion with a buddy during the game yesterday about that. He initially thought that it was a decent move considering that it was early in the game.
I reminded him that runs late in the game aren’t worth any more than runs early in the game. I also told him that with two on and two outs, that it was the perfect time to use Edmonds… particularly since he wasn’t going to be able to play the field.

bullsh*t. If we’re playing vigilante justice, this one is headed directly to his back…
He was blantantly spiked at 3rd
The ball was there a split second early and he was clearly going to be out at 3rd. He went in spikes up trying to knock the ball away at 3rd while Casey was behind 3rd base. He wasn’t blocking the plate. It was a dirty play plain and simple.
Maybe we can a runner to 3rd on a sliding play...

Narveson's pitch count is good so far, too
The Brewers bullpen could really use a 7 inning performance by a starter, too.
Ueck just noted his lifetime BA is .289. Very nice. Maybe DM looks at hitting when he’s signing his starters.
Well, he certainly doesn't look at pitching
Ba-dum ching!
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
