Gomez

He’s only three straight 3 for 4 games from a .259 average. Go go Gomez.

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

That was my thinking as well

Cause they probably look at the AL East and know that when it comes down to it, they’re going to have to outslug them.

I’m intrigued, Rangers have the prospects and pitching for this, but financial capability is certainly an obstacle.

Beginning with the 30 game span

ending June 22nd, the Brewers have been at or above 500 for all encompassing 30 game spans

I don’t know what that means.

But at least it leads to a graph showing the team has been sucking decisively less. Maybe.

Weeks has been streaky over the course of his career, even when healthy.

by Kyle Lobner on Jul 28, 2010 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm saying

Weeks was not great (though admittedly not as bad as gomez) the first 2 years of his career, I think most people would agree he was rushed to the majors, and now he’s breaking out.

I don’t begin to think that Gomez will end up like Week’s, he’s starting lower, and will probably max out lower, but I still think he’s got the potential to be a pretty damn good player.

http://www.twitter.com/mykenk

by Mykenk on Jul 28, 2010 1:47 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, that guy never was good until recently

Except for when he finished 6th in rookie of the year voting, or when he was on a tear last season, or when his lowest slugging in a season was .720 as a rookie, 63 points higher than Gomez’s best ever.

by Archibaldcrane on Jul 28, 2010 1:46 PM CDT up reply actions

Right.

He (Gomez) is not going to be a superstar, most likely. I’m just saying, he’s way too young to be thrown into the “never gonna do it” bucket.

http://www.twitter.com/mykenk

by Mykenk on Jul 28, 2010 1:48 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree.

I’d agree more if his attitude wasn’t so shitty. Much like Wolf bought me a lot of leeway with his “I need to work on the fact that I suck” comment, Gomez’s “I’m only a few 3 for 4 games from batting .260” crap cut down his slack considerably.

by Archibaldcrane on Jul 28, 2010 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't think he'll "never" break out

But he needs to discipline himself more before it happens. It’s tough being patient with him when we have Cain waiting in the wings.

by GormanBraun28 on Jul 28, 2010 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Aren't Gomez's

minor league numbers better than Cain’s?

Just saying, we don’t know enough about Cain to assume he’s gonna be great, and besides, ideally they’re playing side by side, doesn’t have to be (and shouldn’t be) either or.

I’m all for giving him a shot, but both those guys should be playing everyday somewhere.

http://www.twitter.com/mykenk

by Mykenk on Jul 28, 2010 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions

Maybe

But Cain has showed more plate patience down there and in his brief stint here. Gomez is a free swinger, which is fine if you can actually make contact.

I had a discussion with a buddy during the game yesterday about that. He initially thought that it was a decent move considering that it was early in the game.

I reminded him that runs late in the game aren’t worth any more than runs early in the game. I also told him that with two on and two outs, that it was the perfect time to use Edmonds… particularly since he wasn’t going to be able to play the field.

Inglett can play anywhere.

Realistically, Inglett has played 3B before… just not alot. He’s had six starts at 3B at the MLB level.

Probably

I think he’s only listed as 2B and OF though, so might not have perfect reaction time. I can see them using Counsell for a few days though.

I guess you’re thinking that Cain would get the start and inglett would move to the IF?

Right.

The ball was there a split second early and he was clearly going to be out at 3rd. He went in spikes up trying to knock the ball away at 3rd while Casey was behind 3rd base. He wasn’t blocking the plate. It was a dirty play plain and simple.

Not much of a farewell tour for Counsell

I don’t think he’ll be in baseball next year, he’s looking his age lately… batting .095 since June 20.

Umm...Dusty...

Why did it have to be last year that I had Phillips on my fantasy team

Sigh…I better not here that one pitch away garbage after the game either. There were about 10 “one pitches” that should’ve been different.

by PagsBrewCrew on Jul 28, 2010 4:26 PM CDT up reply actions

I know.

But we haven’t had an off day since the Break, and Villanueva’s cooked, and Axford’s thrown a ton of pitches in the last week, and Braddock’s arm is ouchy … I don’t know. I wasn’t expecting a quick hook when the ’pen had to cover 5+ innings yesterday.

Tomorrow is an off day.

So, Macha was probably hoping they could limp out of today’s game with a win and those three relievers.

Yes

@Haudricourt: If the Brewers truly were waiting to see how they did vs. Cincy to decide what to do with trades, they are certainly sellers now.

I really, really, REALLY hope that wasn’t the case.

I figured a sweep would lead to an acquisition of Kyle Farnsworth

a

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

i don't think so

but I heard a TV announcer recently say that you get an automatic ejection (as a manager) if you leave the dugout to argue about one of your players being tossed. If you’ve already left the dugout, you’re golden.

We are given these games by the powers of the universe as a healthy reminder.

Because sometimes, we get our hopes up, and think this team might perform well. We need those hopes crushed early before they can become to large.
