Lorenzo Cain called up?
Seems trustworthy... I guess.
Edit: Not called up, but in Milwaukee in case Gallardo has to go on the DL.

if true, Trent Oeltjen isn't going to be a happy camper
at the very least, he is an unemployed camper.
Isn't he already an unemployed camper?

yes
but if Cain was just going to jump to MLB in a few days, there wouldn’t have been any pressing need to get rid of one of the AAA outfielders (unless someone’s getting sent down)
Yes, Oeltjen opted out of his contract
After which the Brewers had 48 hours to call him up or release him.
It was a great selection of awesome.
I was trying to figure out if Cain got called up, prompting Oeltjen to opt out, or if he opted out first and prompted Cain’s callup. Oops.
This whole thing is a personal attack at Oeltjen
the FO has been leaving him messages all night saying “see, shoulda stuck around a couple more days”
Shruggity.
Woah
I’m assuming it will only be for a couple days until Davis comes off the DL, can’t wait to see Lo-Cain in Milwaukee though.
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
haha one can only hope...
I was disappointed with the lack of hookers but the pancakes were delightful
I was thinking this
Edmonds apparently said something about wanting to be on a contender by the end of the season when interviewed by St. Louis radio/TV
Jed's been fun to have on the team
But I wouldn’t begrudge him the opportunity to play in the postseason. Go for it, old man.
I'd say I have a love/hate relationship with Edmonds
But really, it’s more like dislike/dislike more.
As such, I think it’d be funny if he told Melvin he wanted to play for a team that might win something, and Melvin offered him the chance to go play in Nashville.
Now that's great tasting chicken!

I've never really understood that
Why do the folks here dislike Edmonds so much? Is it just because he’s taking Gomez’s playing time? I think Edmonds has actually been a pretty pleasant surprise this year – I expected him to struggle to stay on the roster.

My guess
is that it’s because he’s awful in center field. Him getting so much playing time in CF is a byproduct of Gomez being worse than expected, and Hart playing better than everyone expected. I think if things had worked out the way the FO saw at the beginning of the year, Hart & Edmonds would be in a near platoon in right, and Gomez would be the EDS in centerfield.
I like Edmonds, mainly because our fielding capabilities are about equal, so I can relate to him
Shruggity.
Yeah, I guess circumstances have shifted a bit over time.
At the start of the season I felt Edmonds was being misused as a consistent center fielder, and there was speculation he’d whined his way into that role.
Now, it feels more like the only reason he’s playing consistently is because Gomez has done nothing to deserve the time and the organization doesn’t have other options.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I think it's because he's an asshole and looks like a great white shark

It was a great selection of awesome.
Screw Jenkins retiring...
Trade JEd away and sign Jenkins to take his spot. :)
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
What?
When has the team done something that stupid before? You make it sound like a regular occurrence.
Shruggity.
That'd be an interesting move.
Not a good one, but an interesting one: Sending Suppan away to Camp Reclamation with Dave Duncan long enough to get him straightened out, then sending a spare part off to the Cardinals to get him back and see if they can get a return on their investment.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I wish they would do that trade then DFA Suppan a 2nd time.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
a player that liked his team
and wanted to suck up to his own FO to get a signing/contract extension for the next year and have a big league job?

I realize that it's the agent's twitter account
but I find this terribly far-fetched…He’s played 2 games since getting promoted to Nashville and now he’s coming up? The situation at the major league level hasn’t changed, so I’ll echo the question above: if he was just coming up to the majors, why dump a AAA OF to make room for him?
Color me suspicious…

Assuming Gallardo is headed to the DL, they might just be calling up Cain to have an extra bat on the bench until Davis’ next start (thus, not something they had planned).
Although, if that were the case wouldn’t it be a waste of one of Cain’s options? I’m not extremely well versed in how those work.

If I remember correctly...
Since he, Gamel and Cruz didn’t break camp with the big team, this would be the first option that would have to be used for any of our non-25 man, 40-man roster candidates. That’s poorly worded, but to clarify, since neither Gamel, Cruz nor Cain broke camp with the big club (on the 25 man roster at the end of spring training), and them being the only fielders (non-pitchers) currently on the 40 man roster, they don’t have to option anyone off of the 40-man (or 60 day someone) to bring someone up. Given that we already have Inglett and Counsell for IF and really no back-up in the outfield other than our current platoons, I s’pose it makes a little more sense.
Now, I may have counted wrong here, but I could 39 people on our 40 man roster (with only Hawkins being on the 60-day DL to this point). I’m not sure who else I would have called up rather than Cain (I’ve been as interested as anyone to see how he would do), but it’s interesting to me that Stern didn’t get re-added just so he could sit on the bench again. He’s cleared waivers once this season, who’s to say he wouldn’t again? :)

Gotta start hitting better to start.
I did wonder how this was gonna play out with every bench player a lefty.
Can't hit if he doesn't start
team isn’t trying to win games anymore, gotta get him some experience. He’s a far bigger part of the teams future than Edmonds or Hart.
Shruggity.
I'm not extremely well versed in how the options thing works either.
I know they can be called up and sent down however many times a club wants in a year and it only counts as one option. My guess is, he probably would’ve been called up in September anyway, and thus using an option, so it won’t really make a difference anyway.
My goodness.

For clarification
The option is used when the player is sent down (placed on optional assignment), not when he’s called up. As TheJay noted, Cain’s option for this year has been in effect ever since spring training.
Cain was on the 40-man roster in spring
He was optioned to the minor leagues when he didn’t break camp on the major league roster (the exact date was 3/21/10). They can bring him up and send him down all they want.
Eagerly awaiting SBN Madison.
ahhh....missed that he was on the 40 man earlier
okay…that makes my point above moot.

but now they'll be all confused as to what point was made moot:P
:)
didn’t know you could “hide” posts, just delete
but was just promoted to AAA a couple days before
didn’t know if the agent was in a timewarp (ie had just been on vacation) and was offering a pat on the back after the fact.

Bats off the Bench
If this Cain stuff turns out to the be true, he will be the first Right Handed Bat off the Bench we have had all season. That of course is assuming Cain doesn’t start, and that is also barring any trade. Nonetheless, it is pretty sad we have gone this long without one, since we are past the official halfway point!
Let's hope they handle Cain better than they handled Gamel.
I.E. let’s not let him rot on the bench for extended periods of time.
One man's garbage is another man-person's good ungarbage.
Worth noting
Today’s game notes are out, the lineup has been announced and no one has seen Cain.
It’s possible he’s in callup limbo, like when Zach Braddock got the call but then got sent back before being activated, or it’s possible this whole thing is a misunderstanding.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
It sounds like they're waiting until Gallardo goes on the DL (or doesn't)

Yeah
Shelling said he’ll be in MKE in case Gallardo has to go on the DL, which means he’d only be up for 5 days anyway, and we probably wouldn’t hear about it until after Gallardo’s checkup.
Shruggity.
Heel bruise, on DL.
Give him an offspeed pitch down and in. He will swing and miss.
He's taking BP now
But still no word on when he might be coming back.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
Where does Inglett fit in?
Can he play center? His BA is great. What is his fielding like?
It would be nice to have a guy with that kind of BA in the #2 spot.
Right
Just because he’s doing well as a bench player doesn’t mean that he’ll find the same success as any everyday starter.
There’s a reason why the Bluejays never used him anything more than a utility player even though he always put up decent stats at the plate.
BTW – He’s played most of his games at 2B with the corner OF spots next. He’s played CF only a handful of times.
