Introducing a New Project: The SBN Wisconsin Hall of Fame
After months of consideration and conversation behind the scenes, I'm proud today to introduce a new joint project among the SBN Wisconsin sites: The SBN Wisconsin Hall of Fame. This year, for the first time, we're coming together to allow you to vote on the greatest athletes, managers and broadcasters in Wisconsin sports history.
Here's how the process will work: This week, we'll nominate ten people to represent baseball in Wisconsin. Those ten will then be placed on the final ballot alongside ten figures selected by each of these communities:
- Acme Packing Company (Packers)
- Anonymous Eagle (Warriors/Eagles/Gold)
- Brew Hoop (Bucks)
- Bucky's 5th Quarter (Badgers)
We'll unveil our final nominees as the month goes along, and I expect the final vote for our first round of inductions to happen in early August.
First, though, I need you to help me select our nominees. After the jump, you'll find a ballot including 67 players, managers, broadcasters and an owner from the Milwaukee Brewers and Braves. Current Brewers are not eligible. Please select up to ten candidates to appear on the final ballot. Voting will remain open until Friday, with the top ten candidates announced in the weeks to come.
Please follow the jump to cast your vote!
(Editor's note: To make room for this project, the Brew Crew Ball Tracking Poll is taking a week off. It'll be back a week from today.)

But other than that,
cool idea!
My goodness.

Yeah, I know.
But I did my best to include any feasible selection on this list. There are several that have no business being inducted, but I wanted to make sure I’d done my best to insure there wouldn’t be an obvious “But what about _?”
Now that's great tasting chicken!
But what about Tommy Harper?!
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

I love Harper as an underrated Brewer
but I don’t think his one good year merits consideration for the Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
Agreed

Yeah, I wouldn't have voted for him
But he was the marquee player for the Brewers in the franchise’s first few seasons, which is sort of significant.

Also
Of the first four voters, two completely ignored the “Vote for no more than ten.” One voted for 12, another for 27.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
Probably the purse selling people

I'd been thinking of getting one of those rubber bands.
That’s a good price for it.

My picks
Non-debatable:
Aaron
Matthews
Molitor
Spahn
Uecker
Yount
Debatable:
Cooper
Higuera
Jenkins
Thomas
I take it this is only for players who played for a Wisconsin team, and not Wisconsin-born athletes? (e.g. Kid Nichols, who was born in Wisconsin and played for the pre-Milwaukee Boston Beaneaters)
Ryan Braun: He loves it.
I had your same non-debatable ones
Plus Cooper, Jenkins, Gantner…and Selig (perhaps the most debatable). I did totally have a brain fart and overlook Gorman; I wish I had included him.
I’m interested to see how many votes Selig gets, ‘cause he’s obviously a bit controversial as comissioner, but from what I understand, the Brewers pretty much wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for him, so I felt like I should throw him a vote.

I had the almost exact same vote.
Except I had Ben Sheets on mine and no Gorman Thomas, and for the life of me I cant remember that last one…i completely skipped over Higuera (I think) unintentionally.
I had your non-debatable ones
And only one of your debatable ones (Cooper).
I also had Kuenn (the benchmark for Brewers managers), Burdette and Selig (who brought the Brewers to Milwaukee).
I wanted to also vote for Gantner… who was a solid second baseman and played his entire career (17 years) with the Brewers.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
Kuenn was also a Badger

I only applied the "current" rule to current players.
So Mark A. could be eligible. And Uecker is on the ballot.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
Shoot
This is really hard! Great idea though, I look forward to seeing how this turns out!
I think maybe I should have voted for Selig
He really did go above and beyond what most owners/investors would have done in order to bring baseball back to Wisconsin.
(Though, he also sold my grandfather a lemon)
Ryan Braun: He loves it.

i did
i think he’s in the non-debatable category. he tried to keep the braves in milwaukee and then overpaid to bring the pilots here. he was aggressive in bringing the dalton gang over and without that, those early ’80’s years never happen. yes, he’s had his share of issues, but that’s largely (imo) due to financial constraints and a complete and total lack of charisma.
I did
Same reasoning; the Brewers almost certainly wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for him

random question
is the SBN WI HOF limited to brewers, packers, badgers, bucks, marquette (select random mascot)? what about those UW schools besides madison?
i suppose this may not come up in the first couple of years, but it might be worth thinking about.
Excellent question
Terry Porter for instance. Along with a host of UW-Oshkosh pitchers.

I'm open to eventual expansion.
This year is just a “get off the ground” effort. If it proves to be successful, then we’ll look into making it an annual event and expanding it.
Now that's great tasting chicken!
I was happy to see Darryl Hamilton on the ballot.
Not happy enough to vote for him, but happy nonetheless. Also, am I crazy in thinking that Juan Nieves should be under consideration?
"Career highlights? I had two. I got an intentional walk from Sandy Koufax and I got out of a rundown against the Mets." - Bob Uecker
Nieves and Tommy Harper are probably the best two candidates I omitted.
I don’t think either warrant inclusion on the first ballot, but both are probably worthy of future consideration.
