Game Thread #118: Brewers (54-69) at Rockies (60-55)
Milwaukee Brewers at Colorado Rockies, Aug 14, 2010 7:10 PM CDT
For the first time in recorded history, the Milwaukee Brewers will face a pitcher named Esmil.
More stuff after the break.
The Brewers have not played well in Colorado, as they have only won 2 of their last 14 matchups in Coors Field. The Brewers are 14-32 all-time in Coors, including a 1-3 mark this year.
The Brewers will counter by giving Esmil Narveson the ball on the bump tonight. Narveson, an Englewood Co. native hasn't made a start against the Rockies yet this year, but faced them twice in relief in April.
Narveson against the Rockies...

Well, I expected it to be quiet here.
But not THIS quiet :P
Ah well Go Brewers and Packers!

I was flipping between A’s at Twins and Diamondbacks at Nationals before this, was thinking about watching Red Sox but their pitching is about as bad as Milwaukee’s.
TD Packers :P
But I cannot fathom how the Red Sox have bad pitching. Haven’t really been following them so much. Hell could careless about the AL East. But it is probably the same old story: Aging pitching staff that is oft injured.

well, it's Lester tonight
Lester and Buchholz have been good, but everyone else except Daniel Bard has been injured, awful, or both (and those I didn’t mention are guys on the PawSox who are filling in for the injured)
The Brewers would be awesome
If games were only 7 innings long and starters only had to go 3 innings.
Was the play at home close?
Or was Lucroy Fischer’d?
by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 14, 2010 9:01 PM CDT up reply actions
I can't tell
The wife has commandeered the television and we’re watching some show on greek mythology.
not even close
Lucroy was out by a mile, fisher’d
He’s actually underrated, but that’s another can of worms…

Something tells me he'll end up getting a crack at Eighth Inning Guy
Sooner rather than later. Macha seems to be throwing crap against a wall with the pen by now anyway, wouldn’t hurt much.
Hawkins is out and Coffee is overused
Braddock and Loe are pretty good, but could use a breather now and again
Oh nevermind
tried to stretch a double to a triple with 0 outs. Bleh.
by Archibaldcrane on Aug 14, 2010 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions
Not all together stupid
Shouldn’t have tried for a triple, but it took good throws to get him.
by Braunstalker on Aug 14, 2010 9:14 PM CDT up reply actions
what very little i have seen tonight
The base running has been awful, windmill’d
He’s actually underrated, but that’s another can of worms…

ah, so that's McClendon
I’m glad to see that the Brewers are also supporters of including elves in the MLB family.
Way to go Legolas!
Although I don’t see how he looks like an elf.

pointed ears from a certain angle
on the side, a bit. at least it’s not as bad as Stephen Strasburg, who has the weirdest darn ears I’ve ever seen in baseball.
I will pay attention to this
I enjoy feel good stories about people overcoming physical deformities.

Esky...giving one a ride...
Does not compute.

Man, Casey and Lucroy smashed the ball.
Bad luck.
I can't wait until September
I’m glad that Lucroy’s been with the team most of the year and I’m enjoying seeing what Cain can do, but I’d like to see more of what the minors have to offer so I can at least get mildly excited about this team.
However, I get the feeling that McClendon’s the end of the callups.
I kinda hope so.
I need something to keep me from totally switching over to football mode.

McClendon out for inning 3?
OK, Macha, what the hell, just because he did long relief in the minors where half the guys have a pitch limit and the other half run it up before the 5th because they suck doesn’t mean he needs to do it here.
Just watch him pitch McClendon tomorrow, too.
just wait until macha starts overusing him
trying to mold him like Coffey and Loe

Loe, Braddock, Axford, Estrada, now McClendon.
Brewers rookies have been lights-out in their initial appearances this year.
by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 14, 2010 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions
Whoops
Loe and Estrada aren’t rookies. You get the point.
by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 14, 2010 9:43 PM CDT up reply actions
only to be overused by macha(except Braddock)
by ilikeburritos on Aug 14, 2010 9:45 PM CDT up reply actions
I'm wondering why Braddock isn't getting overused
I’m suspecting that the doghouse is in full operation there and I have no idea why.
as you know from reading the comments at the Row
it’s probably due to players seeing these guys for the first time. Loe’s a special case as he did have extensive major league experience, but it was all pre-2009 and with an AL club.
Yeah
Still is fun to see them stymie those guys. Got to be a thrill for the pitcher.
by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 14, 2010 9:46 PM CDT up reply actions
axford is probably going to be just as dominant for a while
since he has a 96mph fastball and a good curveball. he just needs to cut down on the walks. loe’s probably gonna regress to an ERA of high-3 or low-4.
by ilikeburritos on Aug 14, 2010 9:47 PM CDT up reply actions
i mean
i don’t really see axford regressing that much

I think Counsell wants out
He’s shown all the signs of playing through a contract. Dude looks bored out there on a nightly basis.
Makes sense
He’s not getting nearly as much playing time as he did last year. Not that he deserves it…
by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 14, 2010 9:56 PM CDT up reply actions
He didn't ask for playing time last year
Everyone was hurt, including Counsell himself. It’s not just the bored, it’s this look of disgust he has as well. (If it’s the feeling that he could probably manage the team better, I don’t blame him….)
Macha has discontinued orange slices and capri suns in the clubhouse.

Maybe he is disgusted with his performance
He hasn’t hit much for a couple months now.
Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
Well, can't use the 'not scoring' route - maybe giving up two in the bottom half?

Casey McGehee

I hope to get loaded if this damn game will end!
by Braunstalker on Aug 14, 2010 10:15 PM CDT up reply actions
Sounded like
a couple of hard-hit balls that didn’t find holes right?
by Archibaldcrane on Aug 14, 2010 10:16 PM CDT reply actions
The end of that inning feels like an awful omen.
I’d almost be shocked if the Crew held the lead now. That feels so defeatist to say, but this team just gets the air of defeat around it at times.
You're not the only one. I feel like Giambi will either tie it or win it (depending if Smith gets on)
I was disappointed with the lack of hookers but the pancakes were delightful
Axford
Trying to extend his current position as the winningest pitcher in the National League with 1 or fewer losses.
Only Tommy Hunter (9-1) is better in that regard.
by Archibaldcrane on Aug 14, 2010 10:22 PM CDT reply actions
Axford hit 97 on the first pitch to Giambi, according to Gameday
Isn’t that pretty dang high for him?
That's how fast he usually throws
I was disappointed with the lack of hookers but the pancakes were delightful
Oh OK
I thought he was more in the 94-95 range.
by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 14, 2010 10:26 PM CDT up reply actions
Time for Axford
to load the bases and then get out of it eh?

Can this guy get just a little bit of ROY lovin’?
by Archibaldcrane on Aug 14, 2010 10:38 PM CDT up reply actions
just a little bit
in a league containing Heyward and Strasburg and Posey (and Barry Enright, hehe) he’s not going to get much attention
Sorry for not believing in you, Brewers.
I figure we’re even now, after all your other collapses. Truce?
Also, Michael McClendon may or may not be Jesus.
Or maybe Legolas.
