Brevard? Do you skip him up to Huntsville?

I'm thinking it'll be Huntsville since he started this season Brevard

we should promote the kid!

oh, wait…he’s older than a majority of the bloggers here and tied with me? nevermind.

What do we know about Luis Cruz?

It’s hard to tell looking at the numbers what the story on a guy is. I was wondering if we had anyone in the minors at all at SS who we could potentially bring up in place of CC next season, and Cruz looks to be the best?

by nullacct on Aug 16, 2010 9:16 AM CDT reply actions

Cruz

After years of not hitting, he parlayed a good month in AAA into a September callup with the Pirates and did nothing in Pittsburgh. He supposedly can play all over the diamond, but the Brewers claimed him off waivers solely because they needed a shortstop for Nashville.

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

He won't be.

They’ll pick up generic veteran infielder to back up.

Fixed.

They’ll pick up gritty generic veteran infielder with heart to back up.

Ok.

His fielding looks really good, but his offense is squat. If we had depth at this position it wouldn’t hurt, since s-key has a ton of potential in the outfield.

by nullacct on Aug 16, 2010 9:57 AM CDT up reply actions

No, he's not.

I’ll speak for him.

Don't speak for me, it makes me sound grumpy

Yeah, I was. Corey Hart to first, Cain in center, Braun in left. I like thinking about it because he fields and throws better than Hart & Braun.

by nullacct on Aug 16, 2010 11:09 AM CDT up reply actions

Yep

given that his offense is pretty easily replaceable, moving him to one of the easiest defensive positions is not really a great move.

http://www.twitter.com/mykenk

by Mykenk on Aug 16, 2010 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions

He's played all of 17 innings in the outfield

How do you know he fields better than Hart & Braun? All his glove work in the infield is for naught if he doesn’t take good routes. His arm at short is useless in RF if he doesn’t throw to the right place. So on, etc. Maybe he winds up a good OF, or maybe he winds up a converted infielder like Hart & Braun.

Not to mention the offensive impact of moving a guy with very little power to RF and replacing him with a SS who has even less.

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

Scary to see Lawrie have the success he's having at only 20 years old

He is only gonna get better every year

I'm just waiting for Braun's next AB against him

Where he’ll “accidentally” let the bat go after swinging and launch it toward Hanson on the mound.

Braun: “Accidents happen, I didn’t mean to throw it, I was just trying to swing harder the same way he tried to pitch well by throwing inside”.
