Was thinking the same thing

Not going to look too much into his August results.

Should probably slow him down, a bit. If not shut him down completely.

Though I guess the season is over soon.

He threw 47 innings last year, and he's now at 108 this year.

So yeah, the fact that he hasn’t already been shut down is a little surprising.

Now that's great tasting chicken!

by Kyle Lobner on Aug 17, 2010 8:58 AM CDT up reply actions

Seems like they've been trying to get him used to this kind of fatigue

So he can build some stamina for the coming seasons. I agree though, surprised he’s still throwing. He’s had a hell of season, save him up for next year, sure he’ll tear em apart in pitcher-friendly Brevard.

Merklinger just keeps rolling

Gamel just keeps hitting – he also hasn’t made an error in over a week. A few games ago he had two outfield assists. I guess teams want to test him out there.

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.

Hey, a solid outing from Jimmy Nelson.

I guess since he’s now the cream of the Brewers’ 2010 draft crop, I’m going to have to start watching him a little closer.

by Cheeseandcorn on Aug 17, 2010 7:03 AM CDT reply actions

how long does Nashville's season go?

if it goes into september a bit, do you think they just leave Gamel there until Nashville is over, or do they call him up and let him sit on the bench when rosters expand in the majors? I really hope they leave him down there until Nashville is done

by torts on Aug 17, 2010 9:11 AM CDT reply actions

Minor league season ends at the end of August

Will sometimes run into September if there are league playoffs.

what's your logic?

a) rot on the bench?
b) not ready for MLB?
c) want to stall his service clock as much as possible?

I’m guessing a?

by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 17, 2010 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions

I mentioned this before...

But I think its soley for trade value.

If they can convince a team he can play 3B his value is really, really high. If they can’t convince teams he can play 3B, they can at least point out that he has a little experience in RF and 1B and could learn those positions if needed.

by Supertramp on Aug 17, 2010 10:53 AM CDT up reply actions

If that's the case

I think they’d be better off playing him at RF and 1B so he has more than “a little experience” there. I think at this point, people have made up their mind about his ability to play or to not play 3B.

http://www.twitter.com/mykenk

by Mykenk on Aug 17, 2010 10:56 AM CDT up reply actions

Probably

Though I think the assumption would be that he could learn RF/1B in the offseason (like Braun), so they are just showing that he’s athletic enough to make it work.

I’m OK with the strategy – if one GM is dumb enough to think he can stay at 3B it really helps the return.

by Supertramp on Aug 17, 2010 10:59 AM CDT up reply actions

Why would they trade him?

The team’s most likely going to have a huge hole next year and he’s the only player in the system who could conceivably fill it. Unless they shift people around and start both Cain and Gomez/Dickerson, which seems unlikely.

Ryan Braun: He loves it.

by SRB on Aug 17, 2010 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions

Joe Koshansky, I think

Maybe he should play first base instead. That is, he should lie out there and we can step on him when we get a hit.
