I don't know if I've seen 0 votes for a choice before
re: what to do about Gomez
"The Milwaukee Brewers' line score is starting to resemble an international phone number" - Pittsburgh Pirates Radio during 20-0 shutout - 4-22-10
only because I didn't get to vote
I would have selected that actually. Cain’s earned a spot on the roster for next season. I’d rather all 3 players (dickerson, gomez, cain) get max # of ABs possible. So, that means gomez starts in center.

Thanks for the poll. Always helpful!
I’d be interested to see what that Macha number would be after last night’s failure to pull Bush. Disapproval rating’s get close to Congress’s.
A group of non-English-speaking, baseball-ignorant Indonesians watching the game in Jakarta would have known what should be done when Barajas stepped out of the on-deck circle… (Just trying to make the point, again)

Right...
Everyone knew that Barajas (a .225 hitter before last night) was going to hit a HR.
Pujols is the Barack Obama of baseball.
I think the point is everyone knew Dave Bush wasn't long for an implosion
Barajas just happened to be the beneficiary.

What on earth does Barajas' BA have to do
with his mastery of Bush in the previous ABs?

What was the date of the last Gomez/Hardy question?

Two things:
1.Carlos Gomez was absolutely horrible last night, killing literally 3 rallies. Probably the worst spot in the lineup for him to be (should have batted eighth).
2. Dave Bush’s big inning should have been avoided. Capuano and Coffee should have been up at the start of the inning, and put in at the first sign of trouble, considering Bush barely got out of the 5th and started the 6th with 96(?) pitches.
Another instance of complete ineptitude from the manager. A shame, really.

If Bush can't pitch into the 6th inning
he should be DFA’d yesterday. Having to warm up a reliever in the 5th inning isn’t acceptable.

I think he's saying
start warming after Bush is done with the 5th.
by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 25, 2010 2:04 PM CDT up reply actions
Still. That's pathetic.
If a starter can’t go 6, they shouldn’t be starting.
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
meh
i think if you can always go at least half the game, you’re better starting than doing anything else (assuming there’s no one else around that can do the same).
by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 25, 2010 2:08 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah, I know.
Just had a rash of irrationality. But the bullpen isn’t good enough to handle 4 innings every night.
http://www.twitter.com/mykenk
right...the bad thing is
we need to find 4 guys that can do 6.5 avg innings
then 2 guys that each can do 5-6 but we have go 4-5 each and split the game.
by PagsBrewCrew on Aug 25, 2010 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions
Agreed...slightly
I think to have a successful pitching staff, you need 3 guys who can on average go at least 6 innings a night, and give you quality innings. Every so often they wont be able to make it 6, understandable, as of late we’ve needed guys to go 6 to save the bullpen.
Pitchers can’t be good all the time, that’s just how the game works. In a perfect world, Bush would be a good 4-5 guy because of his occasional gems as well as his occasional blowups. Because of a lack of quality starters, he is instead forced into a 2-3 spot and not able to deliver those results.

Eh
6 of Gallardo’s 24 starts were less than 6 innings, 2 of them less than 3, one greater than 3 but less than 4
7 of Wolf’s 26 starts were less than 6 innings, none less than 3, none less than 4.
8 of Bush’s 25 starts were less than 6 innings, one less than 3, one exactly 4.

Bush has completed the sixth more than once this year.
I’m quite sure of this.
I believe we all agree we have three spots in the order that are weak. Assuming Melvin has no solution, I think the only sane thing to do is, plan for the 3 weak sisters to pitch 5, not 6, innings and get a reliever ready AUTOMATICALLY.
This simple strategic move, used aggressively, just might save Macha’s ass.

No, it won't.
It’d further destroy the bullpen. Always having a guy warming up in the 6th is a good way to kill the pen…
